Rhode Island Rams Betting Preview
Rhode Island has been pretty choppy in the win column during this calendar year, but overall they’re not doing too badly. The Rams opened the season on a nice 11-1 run through their first 12 games. The lone loss during those dozen outings came back on December 2 in a double-overtime road finish against Brown. Rhode Island would hit a very up-and-down run from there, posting losses to Duquesne, George Washington, Loyola Chicago, VCU, La Salle, Fordham, and George Mason across the next 11 games. In the last pair, the Rams have been able to right the proverbial ship, though. They’ve taken out St. Bonaventure and La Salle in consecutive outings, giving Rhode Island a 17-8 overall run through their first 25 games of the season.Â
In the La Salle matchup last weekend, the Rams went into the second half with a four-point edge. Rhode Island kept it up on a 48-37 run from there and took the eventual win 86-71 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Jaden House with 16 points and four rebounds with two steals. Javonte Brown doubled up on 13 points with 10 rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Sebastian Thomas did as well, notching 11 points with 11 assists and three steals.Â
Saint Louis Billikens Betting Preview
Over on the Saint Louis side, they’ve had a couple of good runs in the books this year but they’ve also had some rough skids. The Billikens went just 6-6 in their first 12 outings, falling to Santa Clara, Wichita State, San Francisco, Illinois State, Wofford, and Grand Canyon along the way. St. Louis hit a nice 8-3 run in the next 11 games though, falling to VCU, George Washington, and Dayton amid wins over William Woods, Fordham, Saint Joseph’s, St. Bonaventure, Richmond, La Salle, VCU, and UMass in that time. Since then it’s been three straight losses, though. The Billikens have fallen versus Saint Joseph’s, George Mason, and Loyola in that trio for a 14-12 overall record in 26 games so far this season.Â
Matched up against Loyola in the February 14 outing, the Billikens posted a two-point advantage by halftime. St. Louis was outscored 43-32 the rest of the way, however, leaving them to a 78-69 loss. Leading the scoring was Gibson Jimerson with 20 points and three rebounds in the losing effort. Robbie Avila managed to double up with 19 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists in 38 minutes as well.Â
Why the Saint Louis Billikens will win
- Saint Louis has won 23 of its last 24 day games at Chaifetz Arena.
- Rhode Island has lost each of its last four road games against the Atlantic 10 Conference.
- Rhode Island has lost the first half in five of its last six road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
Why the Rhode Island Rams will win
- Saint Louis has lost four of its last five games against the Atlantic 10 Conference.
Rhode Island vs Saint Louis PredictionÂ
I’m going to stay with Rhode Island here. The Rams took care of a middling La Salle team pretty well in their last outing, shooting 60 percent from the field with 33 rebounds and 18 team assists. Rhode Island also scored a nice 19 points off 11 Explorers turnovers. That makes three wins in the last five games for the Rams, with 86 or more points scored in two of those victories.Â
As for Saint Louis, they’ve given up 69 or more points in six straight games (a 2-4 run). Rhode Island should have plenty of scoring opportunities in this one, so if they can keep the offense humming the Rams should be able to power one out on Saturday.Â
