The Cardinals have had a couple of choppy runs this year, but overall they’ve done pretty well in the record column. Lamar won just one of their first six games (over Paul Quinn), then beat Our Lady of the Lake, Texas A&M-CC, UTRGV, Louisiana, Southern Miss, Texas A&M-San Antonio, Houston Christian and Incarnate Word over the next nine outings. Losses to Stephen F Austin, New Orleans, and McNeese came next, then an 8-1 stretch with a lone loss to SE Louisiana. Otherwise, it was wins over Nicholls, East Texas A&M, Northwestern State, Stephen F Austin, UTRGV, Texas A&M-C, East Texas A&M, and Northwestern State in succession during that time. The Cardinals are currently sitting at 17-10 over 27 games this year as a result. 

In their Monday matchup with Northwestern State, the Cardinals entered the second half sporting a 35-29 deficit. Lamar came alive from there on a 46-30 run and took the comeback road win 75-65. Andrew Holifield led the team with 22 points, three rebounds, and one assist. Alexis Marmolejos added 13 points with four rebounds and two assists, while Danquez Dawsey had 13 points off the bench in 17 minutes. 

Houston Christian Huskies Betting Preview

Over on the Houston Christian side, they’ve really only got one good run in the books this year and have struggled otherwise. The Huskies opened with a 4-10 run across their first 14 outings. Houston Christian took out only Avila, Rockford, East Texas A&M, and Louisiana Monroe during that time. The Huskies would win six of their next seven games though, taking out Stephen F Austin, Incarnate Word, UT Rio Grande Valley, Texas A&M-CC, New Orleans, and SE Louisiana (with a loss to McNeese). Since then it’s been losses to Incarnate Word, Nicholls, Se Louisiana, UTRGV, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi over the last six games. That gives the Huskies a rough 11-16 overall run through 27 games so far this season. 

Matched up against Texas A&M-CC in their last outing on Monday, the Huskies took a two-point edge into the second half. Houston Christian was outscored 37-29 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 68-62 loss in the end. Elijah Brooks led the team with 16 points and three assists. Bryson Dawkins added 15 points with eight rebounds, and Porter Bazil chipped in five points with two rebounds off the bench in the loss.

Lamar vs Houston Christian Prediction 

I’ll stick with Lamar. The Cardinals started slowly versus Northwestern State in their latest win, but everything worked out well on 45.5 percent shooting and a 37-26 rebounding edge. Lamar did post 13 turnovers for 18 Demons points though, and shot a tepid 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) from the line. Still, that makes eight wins in the last nine games. 

Back on January 4 when these teams last met, Lamar eked out a 63-61 home victory. The Cardinals only got to the line four times (making two) in that one and got outmuscled on the boards 42-35. The 17 Huskies turnovers turned into 27 Cardinals points, though. Lamar likely won’t see so many miscues in the road rematch, so they’ll have to play better otherwise.
