Florida A&M Rattlers Betting Preview

To put it mildly, the Rattlers have been a mixed bag this year, but to their credit, they’ve been much better since mid-January or so. Florida A&M lost to TCU, SMU, Maryland, Florida, Clemson, Utah, BYU, Tarleton State, Bethune-Cookman, Southern, and Grambling in their first 14 games (with wins over Trinity Baptist, Trinity FL, and Presbyterian otherwise). After wins over AR-Pine Bluff, MS Valley State, Alcorn State, Jackson State and Alabama A&M, Florida A&M took another loss to Alabama State. That gave the Rattlers an 8-12 overall run through their first 20 games of the season. 

In their matchup with Texas Southern over the weekend, the Rattlers held a 32-28 edge by halftime. Florida A&M faltered a bit in the second but still powered out the victory 66-64 in the end. Leading scorer Milton Matthews put up 19 points with six rebounds and three steals. 

Prairie View A&M Panthers Betting Preview

Over on the Prairie View side, they’ve really only had one good run so far this year, however brief. The Panthers fell versus DePaul, Incarnate Word, SMU, Fresno State, Northern Colorado, Texas A&M-CC, UAB, Mississippi State, Loyola Marymount, UCLA, Rice, and Oklahoma after an opener win over College of Biblical Studies. The next four games were a 3-1 run with a loss to Southern amid wins over Grambling, MS Valley State, and AR-Pine Bluff, and then came another losing stretch. Prairie View fell to Jackson State, Alcorn State, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, and Texas Southern in their next five consecutive outings. The result would be a 4-18 overall run through the Panthers’ first 22 games of the 2024-25 campaign. 

Matched up against Bethune-Cookman over the weekend, the Panthers were in decent shape with a 40-37 advantage by halftime. Prairie View A&M was outscored 48-42 the rest of the way however, and ended up with an 85-82 loss in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Tanahj Pettway with 23 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Braelon Bush added 20 points with three rebounds and four assists along the way as well.

Florida A&M vs Prairie View A&M Prediction 

I’ll stay with Florida A&M. On Saturday the Rattlers were able to eke one out against Texas Southern despite shooting a tepid 41.2 percent from the field with a 35-32 rebounding deficit and 16 turnovers for 20 Tigers points. It was the third time in the last five games that Florida A&M has been below 67 points, so I’d like to see a higher total here. 

As for Prairie View A&M, they faded down the stretch versus a middling Bethune-Cookman squad on Saturday. The Panthers gave 57.1 percent shooting from the field in that one and got outmuscled on the boards 39-25. The 17 points off 13 Wildcats turnovers helped, but it wasn’t enough to put Prairie View over the top. I like Florida A&M to keep them down Monday as well, but it’ll be a good matchup if both teams play to their capabilities.
