SMU Mustangs Betting Preview
SMU has a couple of spotty runs so far this year, but overall they’ve been quite a consistent team in the record column. The Mustangs opened on a 4-2 stretch with wins over Tarleton State, Florida A&M, UNC Greensboro, and Prairie View, then hit a winning streak over Cal Baptist, Washington State, Alabama State, Virginia, LSU, Boston College, and Longwood. Consecutive losses to Duke and North Carolina came next, then a 6-1 stretch with a lone loss to Louisville. Otherwise, it was wins over Georgia Tech, Virginia, Miami, NC State, California, and Stanford in that time, giving the Mustangs a solid 17-5 overall record through the first 22 games this year.
In the Stanford matchup back on Saturday, the Mustangs hit a dominant 45-25 run in the first half. SMU kept it up from there on a 40-36 stretch and finished off a blowout home win 85-61. Tops in scoring was Samet Yigitoglu with 17 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Matt Cross added 16 points with eight rebounds, and Kario Oquendo came off the bench for 16 points and three rebounds of his own. Boopie Miller doubled on 10 points and 10 assists with a pair of blocks in 31 minutes as well.
Virginia Tech Hokies Betting Preview
Over on the Hokies’ side, they haven’t been able to get back above .500 in quite some time. Virginia Tech opened with wins over Delaware State, USC Upstate, and Winthrop, then fell to Penn State, Jacksonville, Michigan, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Pittsburgh in the next six. A 5-3 stretch came next with wins over North Carolina A&T, Navy, Miami, Cal, and NC State, then three straight losses to Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, and Clemson. Since then, Virginia Tech has salvaged a pair of wins over Florida State and Virginia, giving them a 10-12 overall run so far.
Matched up against Virginia in their Saturday outing, the Hokies came out of the locker room sporting a 38-31 edge. Virginia Tech was outscored 43-37 the rest of the way but managed to hang on for a 75-74 victory in the end. Topping the team scorers was Jaden Schutt with 18 points, five rebounds, and one assist. Tobi Lawal was the only other player on the team to finish in double-figures, notching 17 points with five rebounds in 23 minutes of work on the floor.

SMU vs Virginia Tech Prediction
I’ll stay with SMU I suppose. The Mustangs demolished a decent Stanford team in their last outing, shooting a nice 53.4 percent from the field and 50 percent (12-of-24) from 3-point range. The only real blemishes were the 43-34 rebounding disparity (19-7 offensive) and the 10 turnovers. SMU notched 21 points off 14 Cardinal turnovers though, and held Stanford to just 33.3 percent shooting overall. That makes 73 or more points in four of the last five games (a 4-1 stretch) for SMU, who should also score pretty well here.
As for Virginia Tech, they’ve played well over their last pair with a combined 151 points in two much-needed wins. The Hokies do have the advantage of home court here, but SMU should be able to control most aspects of this matchup.
Andrew’s Pick SMU Mustangs -5.5
