Indiana Hoosiers Betting Preview
The Hoosiers got off to quite a nice start through their first 16 games this year, but they’ve stumbled in some tough Big Ten matchups since the middle of January. Indiana hit a 13-3 opening stretch, posting wins over SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois, South Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Providence, Sam Houston, Miami-OH, Minnesota, Chattanooga, Winthrop, Rutgers, Penn State, and USC. Since then it’s been a rough run of 1-5 play featuring a lone OT win versus Ohio State. Otherwise, the losses have piled up versus Iowa, Illinois, Northwestern, Maryland, and Purdue in that time, giving the Hoosiers a 14-8 overall run through 22 games.
In Friday’s matchup versus Purdue, the Hoosiers came out of the locker room facing a 41-37 advantage on the scoreboard. Indiana faltered from there on a 44-35 run and took the loss 81-76 in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Mackenzie Mgbako with 25 points and five rebounds. Oumar Ballo added 14 points with eight rebounds and two assists, while Trey Galloway had 15 points, five assists, and three boards off the bench.
Wisconsin Badgers Betting Preview
Over on the Wisconsin side, they’ve only got a couple of instances of sketchy play this year, and both were brief. The Badgers beat Holy Cross, Montana State, App State, Arizona, UTRGV, UCF, Pitt, and Chicago State out of the gate this year before losses to Michigan, Marquette, and Illinois. A win streak over Butler, Detroit, Iowa, Rutgers, Minnesota, Ohio State, and USC came next, then a 2-2 stretch. Those losses were to UCLA and Maryland. Otherwise, it was wins versus Nebraska and Northwestern in that time for a 17-5 overall run.
In the Northwestern game, Wisconsin was trailing 31-25 going into the second half. The Badgers got it going from there, however, notching a 50-38 run on the way to a 75-69 win in the end. Leading the team in scoring was John Tonje with 27 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Carter Gilmore came off the bench for 15 points and seven rebounds, while Max Klesmit had 11 points with four rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes of action.
Why the Wisconsin Badgers will win
- Wisconsin has won 20 of its last 21 night games at Kohl Center against non-AP-ranked opponents.
- Indiana has lost each of its last six night games against AP-ranked opponents.
- Indiana has lost the first half in six of its last seven night games against AP-ranked opponents.
Indiana vs Wisconsin Prediction
I’ll stay with Wisconsin. The Badgers started pretty sketchy in their latest win over Northwestern, eventually shooting just 41.5 percent from the field with 10 turnovers. Wisconsin was great from the line though (18-of-21 for 85.7 percent), and posted a 38-29 rebounding edge which helped them power out the road victory. That gives the Badgers 68 or more points in all but one game this season (64 in a three-point loss to Michigan on December 3), so they should be good for a nice total here as well.
As for Indiana, they’ve been scoring quite well themselves lately with 69 or more points in five straight outings. The trouble is, the Hoosiers are just 1-4 in those games and have given up 76 or more in all five of them. The Badgers shouldn’t have a ton of issues scoring in this one, so I like Wisconsin to power one out at home. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Indiana hang around most of the way, however. It should be a fun matchup for the most part.
