Delaware Blue Hens Betting Preview
The Hens didn’t start off the season too badly, but they’ve been fighting off the .500 mark since late December with varying results. Delaware opened on a 7-4 run with wins over Robert Morris, Iona, Yale, Rider, Delaware State, Chestnut Hill College, and Misericordia. The losses otherwise were versus Bucknell, Bryant, Vermont, and Duquesne. A 2-4 stretch ensued with wins over Monmouth and North Carolina A&T among losses to Saint Peter’s, St. John’s, Northeastern, and Hampton. The next four games were a 2-2 run with wins over Stony Brook and Elon followed by losses to Hofstra and Drexel, giving the Hens an 11-10 overall record.Â
On Thursday versus Towson, Delaware held a four-point edge by the break. The Hens were outmuscled 47-33 the rest of the way, however, leading to a 76-66 loss in the end. Leading the way was John Camden with 17 points, six boards, and three steals. Niels Lane added 13 points with five rebounds, four assists, and one steal in 32 minutes of action as well.Â
Monmouth Hawks Betting Preview
Over on the Monmouth side, they’ve struggled mightily this year with only one instance of consecutive wins so far. The Hawks lost to Michigan State, Temple, Northern Illinois, Rutgers, Wichita State, Youngstown State, Stephen F. Austin, and Presbyterian in their first eight games. The next eight were a 3-5 run with losses to Lehigh, Princeton, Auburn, Delaware, and UNC Wilmington mixed with wins over Seton Hall, Fairfield, and Stony Brook. Monmouth would beat Charleston and NC A&T before three more losses to Campbell, Elon, and William & Mary, giving the team a 5-16 result through their first 21 games this year.Â
Matched up against Drexel on Thursday, the Hawks gave up a 44-33 halftime lead and needed two overtime periods to decide an eventual win 104-97. Madison Durr was tops on the team with 40 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Abdi Bashir added 32 points with two rebounds and two assists in 48 minutes of work.Â

Delaware vs Monmouth PredictionÂ
I’ll lean toward the Hens, but I could go either way. Delaware needs a better effort than they got in the loss to Towson this week, certainly. In that one, the Hens shot well (49.1 percent) but also got pounded 36-28 on the boards (12-6 offensive) and coughed up 16 turnovers for 21 Tigers points. Delaware really needs a shot in the arm when it comes to scoring production as well. The Hens have fewer than 69 points in three straight games now (all losses). They’ll either need to up that total here (and cut down turnovers) or really tighten down on defense (and cut down turnovers).Â
The last time these teams met up back on January 4, Delaware pulled off an 84-64 victory. The Hens shot a stellar 51.7 percent from the field compared to Monmouth’s 32.7 percent in that one and scored 20 points off 11 Hawks turnovers. The 40-32 rebounding advantage for the Hens didn’t hurt either. Delaware likely won’t be so dominant this time, but I still like them slightly better cover-wise. In reality, I’m probably not touching this one, though. It’s tough to trust the Hens right now, so taking Monmouth at home isn’t a terrible idea.Â
