Grand Canyon Antelopes Betting Preview

The Antelopes have a couple of instances of consecutive losses so far this season, but on the whole, they’ve been quite a consistent team in the record column. Grand Canyon kicked things off on a 6-2 run with wins over Cal State Fullerton, Western Kentucky, Norfolk State, Stanford, Hawaii, and Life Pacific, then took a couple of losses to Georgia and Louisiana Tech in the next pair. After a win streak over Chicago State, St. Louis, San Diego, Bryant, and Southern Utah the Antelopes took another loss to Utah Valley. Since then it’s been three straight wins for Grand Canyon, though. Those have come courtesy of Abilene Christian, Tarleton State, and Southern Utah, giving the Lopes a 14-5 overall record through the first 19 games of the year.

In the Southern Utah game back on Thursday, the Lopes came out of halftime with a dominant 40-27 edge. Grand Canyon kept the pace in the second half with a 34-32 run, cruising to a 74-59 win in the end. Tops in scoring was JaKobe Coles with 20 points, seven boards, and four assists. Duke Brennan doubled up on 12 points with 13 rebounds, and Lok Wur led the bench scoring on nine points and four rebounds in 20 minutes of work on the floor.

Utah Tech Trailblazers Betting Preview

Over on the Utah Tech side, they haven’t had much luck in the win column at all this year—outside of one five-game stretch earlier this month, that is. The Trailblazers opened on a 2-10 skid, taking losses to Oregon State, New Mexico State, Wyoming, Utah, Cal State Northridge, Montana, Portland State, Boise State, Utah State, and Weber State in that time. Wins over Whittier, South Dakota, Texas Arlington, and Tarleton State came in the next five games alongside a lone loss to FIU. Since then it’s been a couple more losses for Utah Tech. They’ve fallen to Seattle U and Utah Valley in that pair for a 6-13 overall record so far this season.

Matched up against Utah Valley last weekend, the Trailblazers were in front 42-40 by the end of the first half. Utah Tech couldn’t maintain form in the second, however, getting outscored 56-38 on the way to an eventual 96-80 defeat. Leading the team in scoring during the loss was Noa Gonsalves with 18 points and two steals. Beon Riley added 16 points with four rebounds and three steals, while Hakim Bird chipped in with 14 points, five assists, and two boards.

Why the Utah Tech Trailblazers will win

  • Utah Tech has won each of its last four home games.

Why the Grand Canyon Antelopes will win

  • Grand Canyon has won nine of its last 10 games against Conference opponents.
  • Utah Tech has lost eight of its last nine Saturday night games.
  • Utah Tech has lost the first half in three of its last four night games against the Western Athletic Conference.

Grand Canyon vs Utah Tech Prediction

I’ll stay with Grand Canyon. The Antelopes made short work of Southern Utah in their latest road win, notching 45.2 percent from the field with a 45-32 rebounding edge and 18 points off 13 turnovers. GCU had 13 turnovers themselves as well, however, and missed six of their 17 free throws (64.7 percent) in the victory. Still, the Lopes are playing great these days. They’ve got 68 or more points in eight of the last nine games—an 8-1 stretch.

As for Utah Tech, they’ve given up a combined 178 points in their last two games. I like Grand Canyon to control things from wire to wire here in a favorable road matchup. The Lopes shouldn’t have too many difficulties on Saturday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Grand Canyon Antelopes -12.5
