Colorado State Rams Betting Preview

The Rams had a pretty rough run from mid-November to mid-December this year, but otherwise, it’s been a solid year thus far. Colorado State beat North Dakota, Tennessee State, and Denver in their first trio, then lost to Ole Miss, UC Riverside, and Washington to even things back up. The next seven games were a 4-3 run with losses to Colorado, VCU, and New Mexico among wins over TCU, Loyola Marymount, Radford, and Nevada. Since then it’s been wins over San Jose State, Fresno State, and UNLV ahead of a loss to San Diego State, giving the Rams a 10-7 overall record so far this season.

In the San Diego State matchup on Tuesday, the Rams entered the second half holding a 35-29 deficit. Colorado State didn’t end up getting any closer than that, posting a 40-31 run the rest of the way for a limp 75-60 loss. Jalen Lake led the team with 15 points with four rebounds, and Kyan Evans added 14 points with three rebounds. Both Rashaan Mbemba (five rebounds) and Nice Clifford (six rebounds; two assists) notched 11 points apiece as well.

Wyoming Cowboys Betting Preview

Over on the Wyoming side, they’ve had a couple of nice runs this season themselves, however much of the year has been choppy. The Cowboys went 5-1 out of the gate with wins over Concordia St. Paul, Tennessee State, Utah Tech, SE Louisiana, and Tulane. Four straight losses to Loyola Marymount, Utah State, South Dakota, and BYU came next, then three more wins over Bellarmine, Cal State Fullerton, and Nevada. Since then it’s been a 1-3 run with a win over Air Force mixed among losses to Boise State (twice) and New Mexico for a 9-8 overall record.

In the road rematch versus Boise State, Wyoming posted an even worse outing. The Cowboys were down by an ugly 50-21 score going into the second half, then got outscored 46-34 from there for a 96-55 blowout defeat. The only starter to finish in double-figures was Obi Agbim with 16 points, one rebound, and one assist. Dontaie Allen added 11 points off the bench.

Why the Wyoming Cowboys will win

  • Colorado State has lost the first half in four of its last five day games at Arena-Auditorium against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Why the Colorado State Rams will win

  • Colorado State has won six of its last seven day games against Conference opponents.
  • Wyoming has lost six of its last eight games against Conference opponents at Arena-Auditorium.
  • Wyoming has lost the first half in three of its last four games against non-AP-ranked opponents.

Colorado State vs Wyoming Prediction

I’ll stick with Colorado State. The Rams could use a good showing here following a fairly listless performance on the road versus a solid San Diego State team in their latest loss, though. Colorado State shot 42.6 percent with 32 rebounds in that one but also coughed up 20 turnovers for 22 Aztecs points. The 60-point total broke a string of 72 or more points in three straight games (all wins), so Colorado State is certainly capable of putting up a good total in this one.

As for Wyoming, they were blitzed by Boise State in their last outing with 35.4 percent shooting, a 33-22 rebounding disadvantage, and 14 turnovers. That makes a combined 108 points in the last two games (both losses). The Cowboys have been below 59 points in three of the last four outings as well—a 1-3 stretch. Colorado State should have control in this one, but the Rams could use a shot in the arm on the scoreboard themselves as well.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Colorado State Rams -3.5
