UNLV Rebels Betting Preview

The Rebels have had a couple of pretty good stretches of play so far this year but also had a rough run mixed in there. UNLV kicked things off well with a 4-1 record over their first five, losing to only Memphis among wins over Alabama State, Omaha, Pepperdine, and New Mexico State otherwise. An inverted 1-4 run followed in late November and early December as UNLV beat Pacific among losses to Mississippi State, Northwestern, Creighton, and Dayton. Since then it’s been four straight wins over UC Riverside, Fresno State, Air Force, and San Jose State ahead of a loss to Boise State for a 9-6 overall run for the Rebels through 15 games this year.

In the Boise State matchup on Tuesday, UNLV entered the break with a meager 43-24 deficit and things weren’t looking good. The Rebels got better in the second half on a 38-35 run but eventually lost big 81-59. Topping the team in the losing effort was Jailen Bedford, who mustered 11 points, three steals, two rebounds, and an assist in 24 minutes off the bench. Both Jaden Henley and Dedan Thomas added 10 points apiece, combining for five boards and five assists between them. Brooklyn Hicks chipped in six points off the bench as well.

Colorado State Rams Betting Preview

Over on the Colorado State side, they’ve had some pretty mixed results this season as well. The Rams beat North Dakota, Tennessee State, and Denver in their first three games, then gave it all back with losses to Ole Miss, UC Riverside, and Washington in the next trio of outings. A 4-2 run came next with losses to Colorado and VCU mixed among wins over TCU, Loyola Marymount, Radford, and Nevada. Following a loss to New Mexico, the Rams beat San Jose State and Fresno State for a similar 9-6 record through their first 15 games of the season.

In the Fresno State game back on Tuesday, the Rams were looking good by halftime with a 49-26 advantage. Colorado State hit a 42-38 run the rest of the way, taking the easy win 91-64. Leading scorer Jaylen Crocker-Johnson had 20 points with three rebounds and one assist. Keshawn Williams added 18 points and two boards off the bench, while Nique Clifford had 14 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and one steal during the big victory.

Why the Colorado State Rams will win

  • Colorado State has won 23 of its last 27 games at Moby Arena.
  • UNLV has lost three of its last four road games against non-AP-ranked opponents.
  • UNLV has lost the first half in 10 of its last 11 Saturday road games against the Mountain West Conference.

Why the UNLV Runnin' Rebels will win

  • UNLV has won four of its last five games.

UNLV vs Colorado State Prediction

I’m going to lean toward Colorado State. The Rams made pretty short work of a struggling Fresno State team in their last outing, cruising to 50 percent shooting and a nice 20-of-23 (87 percent) from the line. The 12 turnovers for 16 Bulldogs points were just about the only thing to complain about in that one. Colorado State has now posted 68 or more points in five of the last six games (a 4-2 run), and 72 or more in three of the last five (a 4-1 run). If they can hit the 70-point mark here, the Rams should be in good shape. UNLV is coming off a limp performance versus Boise State (59 points) but they’d hit 77 or more in three straight prior to that. I like a high-scoring finish here in a competitive game, with Colorado State eking it out in the end.

Andrew’s Pick Colorado State Rams -4.5
