Manhattan Jaspers Betting Preview

The Jaspers’ season kicked off on a 3-2 run over the first five games. The losses in that time were versus Maryland and Fairleigh Dickinson. Otherwise, it was wins over Mercy, Fordham, and Army. Manhattan stumbled to a 1-3 stretch over their next four, beating only Saint Peter’s alongside losses to Virginia, Le Moyne, and Marist. Since then it’s been a couple of consecutive wins as the Jaspers have dispatched Wagner and Presbyterian for a 6-5 record overall so far.

Back on December 21 in their last outing versus Presbyterian, Manhattan played a very close game. The Jaspers were in trouble at halftime with a 43-30 deficit but came back to force overtime with a 43-30 run of their own in the second. After 13 points in OT, Manhattan had an 86-81 win. Leading the team in scoring were Will Sydnor, (eight rebounds), Jaden Winston (six rebounds; three assists), and Devin Dinkins (five assists; two steals; two rebounds off the bench), each with 18 points. Mariah Gilyard doubled up on 14 points and 10 boards as well.

Siena Saints Betting Preview

On the Saints’ side, they looked good on a 3-0 start with wins over Brown, Bryant, and American University. Siena would hit the skids after that on losses to Albany, Xavier, Miami-OH, and Jacksonville. Since then it’s been a 3-3 run for the Saints. The wins have come versus Bucknell, Canisius, and Cornell. Otherwise, it’s been losses to Niagara, Saint Bonaventure, and Holy Cross, leaving the Saints below .500 at 6-7 overall so far.

In their Monday matchup with Cornell, the Saints were in the locker room on a 35-35 tie. Siena surged on a 48-42 stretch the rest of the way and pulled off the win 83-77. Justice Shoats doubled up in the victory on 16 points and 10 assists. Both Brendan Coyle (two rebounds) and Gavin Doty (eight rebounds; two assists off the bench) had 16 points as well. Peter Carey (four rebounds; two steals) and Major Freeman (four rebounds; three steals) contributed 13 points.

Why the Siena Saints will win

  • Manhattan has lost each of its last four games after coming off overtime.
  • Siena has won the first half in three of its last four games against Manhattan.

Why the Manhattan Jaspers will win

  • Siena has lost each of its last nine games against the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at MVP Arena.
  • The road team has won each of Siena’s last four games.

Manhattan vs Siena Prediction

I’ll stay with Manhattan, but you could probably argue this one either way. One big drawback working against the Jaspers here is the long layoff; they’ve been absent from competition since way back on December 21 and likely will need a good start in order to cover. In any case, during their last matchup Manhattan showed some guts with an overtime comeback win, eventually shooting 41.3 percent from the field with 41 rebounds and 14 team assists versus Presbyterian.

Manhattan is scoring quite well these days. They’ve hit 70 or more points in five straight, and they’ve also got 166 combined points in their last pair—though that total was buoyed by the overtime win over the Blue Hose.

As for the Saints, they’ve had quite the rocky season themselves but they’re coming off a nice effort versus Cornell—minus the 14 turnovers, that is. Siena shot well in that one (54.2 percent), though. The Saints aren’t the greatest scoring team this year, so if Manhattan can get some early looks to fall I think the Jaspers can get in front and stay there without a ton of difficulties on Friday.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Manhattan Jaspers +4
