The offense was actually pretty good, something that couldn’t be said about the first game but the defense has to be better, especially late. They gave up 20 points in the second half, that has to improve. It’s a bigger test here, and Western Michigan has to play a full complete four quarters on that side of the ball.

In the last game against Duke, Illinois scored 45 points while the defense gave up only 19 points. At halftime, they were up 14-13, but in the second half they scored 31 points, and ended up cruising. Even though they won, they allowed Duke to throw for 356 yards.
Luke Altmyer has been up and down during his career during Illinois, but it seems like he’s finally figuring it out. He completed 22 of his 31 passes for 296 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Hank Beatty is a difference maker, and he finished with eight catches for 128 yards. Kaden Feagin finished with 17 catches for 48 yards and a touchdown. In this game, it’s going to be all about the offense running up the score again early.
I just don’t know how you go anywhere expect Illinois in this game. Altmyer has been quite impressive and he’s going to have another huge game against the Western Michigan defense. Remember how Western Michigan struggled in the second half last week? It’s going to be much of the same here, and Illinois is going to end up pulling away. Illinois is going to put up at least 45 points here. Back Illinois to win this game and cover the spread. This is one of my favorite plays of the entire weekend.
