Washington State Cougars Betting Preview
The Cougars had a pretty middling overall record in 2025, but ended things well. Washington State went 7-6 overall with a 1-0 record in the dismantled Pac-12, which technically gave them a conference championship over the only other member Oregon State. The Cougars finished with a Famous Idaho Potato Bowl win over Utah State 34-21.
In their first action of the 2026 season on Sunday versus Washington, the Cougars were in trouble with a 10-0 deficit heading into the final quarter. Washington State got on the scoreboard from there but still lost 24-10. QB Caden Pinnick put up a 16-of-25 line for 142 yards and two picks while also leading the rushing attack with 14 carries for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Kansas State Wildcats Betting Preview
Over on the Kansas State side, they also had a fairly middling year in 2025. The Wildcats went 6-6 overall with a 5-4 run in the Big 12, which put the team near the middle of the standings. Kansas State declined to appear in a bowl game due to injuries, transfers and a coaching change. It was their first bowl-less campaign since 2020.
Matched up against Nicholls State in their 2026 opener, Kansas State had very few issues. The Wildcats scored double-digit points in every quarter on the way to a rousing 71-3 victory. QB Avery Johnson was 15-of-21 for 199 yards and three scores while Rodney Fields led the rush with 14 carries for 101 yards and a TD of his own.

Washington State vs Kansas State Prediction
I was going to stick with Kansas State but the line seems thick enough to go the other way. The Wildcats pummeled an overmatched Nicholls State team in their opener, giving up just 122 total yards (30 passing), nine first downs and 4-of-16 on third-down tries. Kansas State gained 559 yards (312 rushing) on offense with 34 first downs and 9-of-11 on third downs. Granted, playing Washington State will be a massive uptick in competition but the confidence and the home surroundings will certainly help.
Speaking of the Cougars, on Sunday they had a pretty miserable offensive outing against Washington with 242 yards (142 passing), three turnovers and an ugly 0-of-9 result on third-down tries. Washington State gave up 402 yards on the other side with 6.3 yards per play and 20 first downs. The Huskies’ 12 penalties for 130 yards made the game somewhat interesting on the scoreboard but it was pretty one-sided overall.
