A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for the Southeastern Louisiana vs LSU game
The Lions have three games in the bag this year so far, kicking things off with a matchup versus Louisiana Tech. Southeastern LA couldn’t find the scoreboard in that one, falling 24-0 in a shutout. Game two versus Murray State went much better though, as the Lions eventually powered out a 45-24 victory on the road. QB Carson Camp was 18-of-25 for 173 yards, one TD and one pick, but Kyle Lowe led the offense with 13 carries, 97 yards and three touchdowns. Topping the receivers was Jaedon Henry (who also had 78 rush yards), notching 36 yards on four grabs.
Last weekend versus MS Valley State, the Lions didn’t have a whole lot of trouble. Southeastern Louisiana held the Delta Devils to a single field goal, powering out a dominant victory 56-3 in the end. Lowe was 8-of-8 for 155 yards and three scores, with Calvin Smith leading the rush on 14 carries for 69 yards. Jaylon Domingeaux was the lead receiver in the blowout with four catches for 82 yards and three scores.
Over on the LSU side, they’ve played a trio of outings as well. The Tigers kicked things off with a tricky road matchup versus a good Clemson team, but LSU emerged victorious in that one 17-10. Game two against Louisiana Tech featured some fairly modest scoring in every quarter from LSU on the way to a 23-7 win. QB Garrett Nussmeier threw for 237 yards, one TD and one pick, while Harlem Berry had 56 rushing yards on six carries. Barion Brown caught eight balls for a team-high 94 yards receiving in the win.
Last weekend LSU took on Florida. In that matchup the Tigers held a 13-10 edge at the break. LSU kept the Gators from scoring in the second half, eventually powering out a 20-10 win. Nussmeier was 15-of-27 for 220 yards, one TD and one pick this time. Caden Durham led the rush with 15 carries for 93 yards, and Aaron Anderson was tops among receivers with his four catches for 75 yards. Bauer Sharp wasn’t far behind with 71 yards on three grabs.
Heading into Week 4, Dashawn Spears ranks T6th amongst FBS players for interceptions (2) this season.
LSU ranks T4th among FBS teams for H2 opponent points per game this season (2.3).
LSU ranks 5th among FBS teams for rushing yards allowed per game this season (56.0).
I might take a stab on Southeastern LA here. The Lions are coming off a steamroller of a win against an admittedly overmatched MS Valley State team. SE Louisiana held the Devils to only 164 total yards (103 rushing), 3.0 yards per play, nine first downs and 2-of-12 on third-down tries. Meanwhile the offense generated 445 yards (302 passing), 8.6 yards per play and zero turnovers. Over their last two games, Southeastern LA has a combined 101 points. Are they going to be able to keep it up against LSU? Surely not, but the Lions may have enough firepower to stay in cover territory.
As for the Tigers, they didn’t look spectacular in a fairly ugly win over Florida last weekend. The good news is that the defense came up with five interceptions. The bad news is that LSU posted just 10 first downs and went 4-of-14 on third-down conversions. This matchup will obviously be a cakewalk bounce-back for LSU, but I think the Lions can stay in range.
