Oregon State Beavers Betting Preview
Oregon State won two games last season and begins the JaMarcus Shephard era. Oregon State has made a bowl appearance just three times since the 2014 season.
Mercer transfer Braden Atkinson starts at quarterback, and he threw for 3,611 yards and 34 touchdowns last season with the Bears. Running backs Cornell Hatcher Jr. and Vanderbilt transfer AJ Newberry form the core of the ground game. Wide receiver Xayvion Noland and other portal additions provide skill talent. Defensive coordinator Mike MacIntyre installs a new scheme, but he has questions on the line and in the defensive backfield. A lot of roster turnover for the Beavers and a new coaching staff, but there’s only one way to go with how last season played out.
Houston Cougars Betting Preview
Houston won 10 games last season and enters year three under coach Willie Fritz. Houston has yet to win double-digit games in back-to-back seasons in school history.Conner Weigman returns at quarterback after throwing for 2,705 yards and 25 touchdowns last season while also rushing for 11 scores. Oregon transfer Makhi Hughes takes over at running back, and leading receiver Amare Thomas is back. The Houston offensive line is an experienced group. Defensively, Houston has a strong secondary in Will James, Kentrell Webb, and Jordan Allen. Houston has high returning production and an experienced roster that should make this group competitive in a wide-open Big 12.

Oregon State vs Houston Prediction
Oregon State should be more talented than a season ago, but that’s not saying much. The Beavers have some showing and proving to do. Houston is a team that can make a run in the Big 12 given how much returning production is on this roster. A lot of points for a season opener, but it’s hard to get behind Oregon State given what we saw last season. I have to side with Houston in a blowout home victory.
