Norfolk State Spartans Betting Preview

In their opener this year, Norfolk State took on Towson at Dick Price Stadium. The Spartans were down 13-0 by the break and things didn’t get any better from there in a loss 27-7. QB Otto Kuhns went 19-of-27 for 219 yards, and Kevon King led an anemic rush with 11 totes for 30 yards. Jaylen Laudermilk had the lone rush score (eight yards), and DreSean Kendrick led the team in receiving with 11 grabs for 125 yards. Kam’Ryn Thomas chipped in seven catches for 105 yards as well.

Matched up against Virginia State in game two, the Spartans played a tight matchup but eventually came out on top. Norfolk State faced a 23-10 deficit in the fourth quarter but ended up storming back with a 21-8 run in the fourth. Following an overtime field goal, Norfolk State escaped disaster with a 34-31 outcome. Kuhns was 13-of-20 for 173 yards and two scores. King once again led the rush with nine totes for 63 yards, and Laudermilk had another rush score as part of his three toes for 59 yards. Thomas was again the top receiver, collecting five balls for 82 yards.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights Betting Preview

Over on the Rutgers side, they played a pesky Ohio team in their opener. Rutgers had a tie game 7-7 after one quarter, then scored a whopping 24 points in the second. After a 14-0 deficit in the third, Rutgers needed a fourth-quarter field goal to eke out a 34-31 opener win at home. QB Athan Kaliakmanis was 18-for-23 for 252 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Antwan Raymond led the rushers with 14 carries for 88 yards and a score of his own. Ian Strong was the leading receiver on the team with seven grabs for 100 yards. Both DT Sheffield (four catches; 85 yards) and KJ Duff (five catches; 54 yards) had receiving TDs as well.

In game two versus Miami-OH last weekend, the Scarlet Knights scored points in every quarter—including 17 in the second and 14 in the fourth—on the way to a 45-17 victory. Kaliakmanis was 26-of-36 for 259 yards and four touchdowns this time, while Raymond had 13 carries for 82 yards and two of his own touchdowns. Ian Strong was the leading receiver this time, hauling in nine passes for 116 yards and two of the game’s touchdowns.

Norfolk State vs Rutgers Prediction

I’m likely just going to stay with Rutgers. The Knights rattled off another nice victory last weekend, with this one providing some breathing room early. Rutgers’ offense was cooking against a lesser opponent, notching 421 total yards (259 passing), 5.5 yards per play, 31 first downs and 7-of-10 on third-down tries—not to mention zero turnovers and just two penalties overall. The defense did give up 8.4 yards per play and 368 yards total (251 passing) but the 13 first downs and 3-of-8 on third-down tries helped balance things out. Overall it wasn’t too bad of an effort for the Scarlet Knights, who should be in firm control of this weekend’s matchup.
