Iowa Hawkeyes Betting Preview

Iowa got off to something of a shaky start this year, going 3-2 in their first five outings. The losses in that time were versus Iowa State and Indiana; otherwise it was wins over Albany, UMass and Rutgers. Iowa would win the next trio over Wisconsin, Penn State and Minnesota ahead of two close losses to tough teams in Oregon and USC. Iowa was left with a 6-4 record across their first 10 games of the season.

Last weekend versus Michigan State, the Hawkeyes were up 7-3 going into the second half but then gave up two unanswered touchdowns. Iowa scored 13 in the fourth however, posting a 20-17 comeback win. QB Mark Gronowski was 12-of-22 for 147 yards, one TD and one pick. Kamari Moulton had 18 carries for 78 yards and Reece Vander Zee had two catches for 46 yards in the victory.

Nebraska Cornhuskers Betting Preview

Over on the Nebraska side, they jumped out to a pretty nice 5-1 record in their first six outings. The lone loss in that time was 30-27 to a great Michigan team. Otherwise it was wins over Cincinnati, Akron, Houston Christian, Michigan State and Maryland. The next four matchups were a shaky 2-2 run, though. Nebraska lost to Minnesota and USC in that time with wins otherwise versus Northwestern and UCLA. The result was a 7-3 run through 10 games.

Matched up against Penn State last weekend, the Cornhuskers trailed 23-3 going into the second half. Nebraska ended up surrendering points in every quarter during a 37-10 loss. TJ Lateef was 21-of-37 for 187 yards and also scored a rush TD. Emmett Johnson had 19 carries for 103 yards and Jacory Barney had 55 yards off five catches.

Iowa vs Nebraska Prediction

I’ll stick with Iowa. The Hawkeyes need to play better than they did last weekend though. Iowa had a late scare versus Michigan State, mostly due to the two turnovers, 1-of-10 on third downs and meager 16 first downs. The defense did a good job on the other side though, giving up just 18 first downs and 4-of-15 on third downs. Iowa had a couple of close losses to ranked teams in the previous two outings, so they’ve been playing up—or down—to their opponents lately.

As for Nebraska, they gave up 412 yards, 231 yards, 8.1 yards per play and 21 first downs to the Nittany Lions last Saturday. The Cornhuskers responded with 318 yards and a tepid 17 first downs, which wasn’t enough to stay in the game. Nebraska has been below 18 points in three of the last five games, losing all three of those.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Iowa Hawkeyes -4.5
