In this article we will formulate an Iowa vs Iowa State prediction for this College Football game on Saturday, September 6th at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week 2 matchup.

Iowa Hawkeyes Betting Preview

The Iowa Hawkeyes are 1-0 this year after they defeated Albany by a score of 34-7 in their first game. Iowa trailed 7-3 in the second quarter, but they did take a 17-7 lead into the half. The Hawkeyes added seven points in the third quarter and 10 more points in the fourth to pull away with the win. Iowa out gained Albany by a total of 358-177, went 10-16 on third down conversions, and lost the turnover battle by a total of 1-0. Mark Granowski went 8-15 for 44 yards and one touchdown, Xavier Williams rushed 11 times for 122 yards and one touchdown, and Jacob Gill caught one pass for 13 yards in the win. The Iowa defense was led by TJ Hall and Zach Lutmer, who both had five tackles, while the team had two sacks and five tackles for loss.

Iowa started the game against Albany very slowly, but they eventually found their game and picked up an easy win. The Hawkeyes have plenty to work on offensively, as they hardly passed for any yards last week, but the defense looked very good once again. This is going to be a tough matchup for Iowa, especially if the passing game is not effective.

Iowa State Cyclones Betting Preview

The Iowa State Cyclones are 2-0 this season after they defeated South Dakota by a score of 55-7 last week. Iowa State was tied at seven in the first quarter, but they led 14-7 after one and 27-7 at the half. The Cyclones added 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters, as they cruised to the easy win. Iowa State out gained South Dakota by a total of 529-208, went 9-10 on third down conversions, and won the turnover battle by a total of 2-0. Rocco Becht went 19-20 for 278 yards and three touchdowns, Dylan Lee rushed 13 times for 81 yards and one score, while Gabe Burkle caught four passes for 85 yards and one touchdown. The Iowa State defense didn’t record a sack, but they did have four tackles for loss.

Iowa State defeated Kansas State by a score of 24-21 in their week zero game, so they are one of the few programs that are already 2-0. The Iowa State offense is averaging 48.5 points per game and they are allowing 14.0 points against per game, while they are also averaging 244.5 passing yards and 176.5 rushing yards per game. Rocco Becht has thrown for 461 yards and five touchdowns, Carson Hansen has rushed for 90 yards, and Brett Eskildsen has caught five passes for 123 yards and one score to lead Iowa State this year.

Iowa vs Iowa State Prediction

Iowa State has looked very good through two games to start this season and I think they will pick up another win here. The Cyclones have a very good quarterback and their defense should be fine against this Iowa offense. The Hawkeyes struggled in their first game and while I do expect a better performance here, I just don’t trust the Iowa offense to keep pace with Becht and the Iowa State offensive unit. Take the Cyclones to cover at home.

David Racey's Pick: Iowa State -3
