A summary that ties it all together and produces a favorable betting outcome for the Indiana State vs Indiana game
The Sycamores had a pretty easy-looking matchup in their first game versus McKendree, but after a 13-12 advantage in the first half it wasn’t looking so good. Indiana State rattled off three unanswered TDs in the third quarter however, resulting in a nice win 41-24. QB Elijah Owens posted a 19-of-27 line for 250 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while also rushing 22 times for 62 yards. Tops on the ground was Plez Lawrence with 21 totes for 133 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also leading the receivers with four catches for 92 yards and another score.
In game two versus Eastern Illinois, Indiana State jumped out to a 17-0 lead by halftime, scoring in all four quarters along the way to a 38-14 victory. Keegan Patterson did most of the passing, going 11-of-17 for 111 yards and two touchdowns. Patterson also led the rush with five carries for 78 yards, and Nick Osho bagged nine totes for 50 yards. Larry Stephens led the rush on 63 yards and a score.
Over on the Indiana side, they drew Old Dominion in their first matchup of the season. The Hoosiers scored 10 points in both the second and third quarters during a 27-14 victory. QB Fernando Mendoza had 193 yards on an 18-of-31 line while also rushing for a score on six totes for 33 yards. Roman Hemby rushed 23 times for 111 yards, and lead receiver Omar Cooper caught two balls for 52 yards.
In their second matchup of the season versus Kennesaw State, Indiana really got things going. The Hoosiers scored in every quarter (including double-digit points in three of the four) along the way to a 56-9 blowout win. Mendoza threw for 245 yards and four scores on 18-of-25 passing, and Alberto Mendoza also got in on the action with 3-of-3 for 35 yards and a score of his own. Lee Beebe was the team’s leading rusher with 11 carries for 90 yards and a touchdown, while Elijah Sarratt had nine catches for 97 yards and three scores in the big win.
Heading into Week 3, Elijah Sarratt ranks T2nd amongst FBS players for receiving touchdowns (3) this season.
Matchup/League Facts
Indiana ranks 3rd among FBS teams for rushing yards per game this season (311.0).
Indiana ranks T4th among FBS teams for interceptions this season (4).
I’ll likely just stick with Indiana. The Hoosiers rolled right past Old Dominion in their first game of the season, hanging 502 yards (309 rushing), 30 first downs and a nice 10-of-17 rate on third-down tries. Indiana did give up 218 rushing yards on the other side, but also had three interceptions while allowing just 10 first downs and 4-of-10 on third-down conversions. In game two versus Kennesaw State, Indiana exploded for 593 yards (313 rushing), 8.9 yards per play, 28 first downs and no turnovers. The defense was equally dominant with 271 yards (182 passing) 10 first downs and 2-of-13 on third-down tries allowed alongside a pair of takeaways. If Indiana continues to roll like that, it’s difficult to imagine the Sycamores getting close. That said, I’m probably not touching this one. It should be a fairly thick line just about everywhere and as a result in all likelihood it’s not worth messing with. There are better plays out there.
