Hawaii Rainbow Warriors Betting Preview
Hawaii is coming off a 9-win season and enters the fifth year under coach Timmy Chang. Hawaii has a chance to make bowl trips for a second straight season for the first time since 2020.
Hawaii should be a fun offensive team led by QB Micah Alejado, who threw for 3,106 yards and 24 touchdowns last season. Pofele Ashlock returns after 827 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns, while Audric Harris transfers from Washington and should see an expanded role. Cam Barfield takes over at running back after 80 carries and 4 touchdowns, and the offensive line brings back two starters and a San Jose State transfer in Denaris DeRosa Jr. In a pass-happy spread offense, Hawaii should have a lot of success.
Defensively, there are far more question marks with only three returning starters. Lesterlaisene Lagafuaina is the leader of this defense after 2.5 sacks last season, and Elijah Palmer is coming off 52 tackles and 10 pass deflections. Linebacker Jamih Otis returning would be fantastic, but he tore his ACL in November, and it remains a question if he’ll see the field this season.
Hawaii has the offensive firepower to push toward a MWC title. However, the defense needs to come along to balance things out. If Hawaii can be average or decent on the defensive side, the Rainbow Warriors will push UNLV and New Mexico all season.
Stanford Cardinal Betting Preview
Stanford has won 4 or fewer games in each of the last 7 seasons and begins the Tavita Pritchard era. Stanford hasn’t made a bowl appearance since 2018, so this is a program that’s fallen off like Big Mac toppings.
Offensively, Michigan transfer Davis Warren takes over at quarterback, and he threw for 1,199 yards and 7 touchdowns for the Wolverines in 2024. Running back Micah Ford returns after leading the Cardinal with 643 yards and 4 touchdowns, while receiver Caden High had 37 receptions and a score last season. The offensive line returns three familiar names. There are building blocks on this Stanford offense, and it should be a driving force toward staying competitive.
Defensively, linebacker Matt Rose is the heart of this unit and is fresh off 106 tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble. Rose makes plays everywhere and sets the tone on this side of the ball. Safeties Scotty Edwards and Jay Green return, as well as linebacker Jahsiah Galvan. That gives Stanford its top-four tacklers from last season, which is huge for defensive chemistry. There is a new defensive coordinator in Kris Richard, but this is an experienced defense that was one of the best at defending the red zone last year.
Stanford isn’t projected to have success in the ACC this season, but this is a program that appears to be heading in the right direction, and there are legit strengths on this team. There may not be many wins, but this squad will compete.

Hawaii vs Stanford Prediction
Stanford is the more physical team and could win this game in the trenches, but I’m still leaning toward the points. Hawaii has an explosive, proven quarterback and is surrounded by playmakers. If things get rolling early, Hawaii will be tough to stop and could steal this game outright. Stanford is breaking in a new DC, a new quarterback, and a new head coach.
Hawaii is a team that could win the MWC, so giving them points is risky business. We’re also getting a hook on top of a key number, which is always nice. I’ll grab the points with the Rainbow Warriors while sprinkling the ML.
