Long Season for Eastern Kentucky?

Eastern Kentucky comes into this game with a 1-1 record, but there has to be some major concerns that this could be a long season. In the first game of the season against Louisville, they lost 51-1,7 and in the last game they were only able to beat Houston Christian by ten points. In the last game against the Huskies, they actually didn’t play all that well, and they probably are a bit lucky that they were able to come away with the win. Quarterback Myles Burkett completed 13 of his 19 passes for 79 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. He also rushed 12 times for 13 yards, and a touchdown. Brayden Lathan was the top rusher finishing with 21 carries for 53 yards. 

In the first game against Louisville, the offense only managed 150 yards total, while they allowed Louisville to throw for 542 yards. They ended up allowing 313 yards through the air and 229 yards on the ground.

• Marshall has lost three of its last four games in September.

Awful Start for Marshall

It’s been an awful start to the season for Marshall, and they ended up losing each of the first two games. Marshall scored only seven points against Georgia in the first game, while the defense gave up 45 points. That loss wasn’t great, but the bigger concern is with the second game. Marshall faced off against Missouri State, and they scored 20 points, while the defense gave up 21 points. The defense wasn’t great, and they allowed Jacob Clark to complete 21 of his 31 passes for 359 yards and three touchdowns. They did pick off one pass, but still not enough with the way the defense played. Under center for Marshall was Zion Turner, and he completed 13 of his 24 passes for 83 yards, zero touchdowns, and one interception. 

The running game was strong though, and there were three different players that rushed for at least 60 yards. Joshon Barbie was the top guy on the ground rushing 12 times for 67 yards. Marshall needs a more balanced offensive attack.

I am just not really sold on the offense for this Marshall team. Eastern Kentucky’s offense managed only 150 yards in the first game against Louisville, and they are going to really struggle to get the offense going again here.
