Duke Blue Devils Betting Preview

The Blue Devils had a pretty good year overall in 2025. Duke managed to go 9-5 overall with a 6-2 run in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke finished in second place among the standings, then beat Virginia in the ACC Championship Game. The Blue Devils would then eke out a tight 42-39 victory in the Sun Bowl versus Arizona State to finish off the season right.

In their opener versus Tulane on Saturday the Blue Devils scored touchdowns in the first and fourth quarters in a 17-3 win. QB Walker Get was 13-of-26 for 131 yards but Nate Sheppard paced the offense on the ground with his 35 carries for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Illinois Fighting Illini Betting Preview

Over on the Illinois side, they got a bit lost among a tough Big Ten last year, going 9-4 overall with a 5-4 stretch in conference games. The Illini landed behind Indiana, Ohio State, Oregon, Michigan, USC and Iowa with that run, and earned a place in the Music City Bowl versus Tennessee. Illinois won that one 30-28 in the end.

Matched up against UAB in their opener this year, the Illini managed to score in every quarter—while also giving up points in every quarter—during a 42-23 win. QB Katin Houser was 13-of-17 for 182 yards and three scores (with a rush TD), and Ca’Lil Valentine had 88 yards and a TD on 11 carries, while Collin Dixon had six catches for 70 yards and two scores.

Duke vs Illinois Prediction

I’ll stay with Duke, though I wish the line were a little better. The Blue Devils were great on the ground in their win over Tulane, racking up 250 rush yards and 20 first downs. The defense gave up just 54 rushing yards on the other side with 10 first downs and 3-of-14 on third-down tries. Tulane’s 15 penalties for 104 yards didn’t hurt either. Still, Duke needs a much better effort in this one.

As for Illinois, they posted 332 yards (150 rushing) with 7.7 yards per play and 17 first downs in their win over UAB. The Illini also gave up 413 yards (219 passing) on defense with 24 first downs and 10-of-19 on third downs, though. Without the Blazers’ nine penalties (for a not-so-nice 69 yards) the game may have been a lot closer. I’m not sold on Illinois just yet.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Duke Blue Devils +6
