BYU Cougars Betting Preview
The Cougars opened the season on a nice eight-game win streak. Those victories came versus Portland State, Stanford, East Carolina, Colorado, West Virginia, Arizona, Utah and Iowa State. BYU would then fall versus Texas Tech on November 8. Since then the Cougars have dispatched TCU, Cincinnati and UCF in succession, though. That gives BYU an 11-1 overall record this season.
In their latest matchup versus UCF on Saturday, the Cougars were in trouble after the first quarter with a 14-0 deficit. BYU scored 38 points over the next two quarters though, leading to an eventual 41-21 victory. Bear Bachmeier finished 21-of-25 for 289 yards and a score, while LJ Martin had 95 yards and three scores off 22 carries. Parker Kingston had six catches for 126 yards and a touchdowns of his own as the leading receiver in the win.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Preview
Over on the Texas Tech side, they kicked off their year with a six-game win streak over AR-Pine Bluff, Kent State, Oregon State, Utah, Houston and Kansas. Following a lone loss to Arizona State, the Red Raiders have since beaten Oklahoma State, Kansas State, BYU, UCF and West Virginia. In total Texas Tech sports an 11-1 overall record through 12 games this year as well.
Matched up against West Virginia on Saturday, the Raiders didn’t have any issues. Texas Tech was up 28-0 by the end of the first half, scoring in every quarter during a 49-0 blowout road win. Behren Morton was 25-of-32 for 310 yards and three scores while Cameron Dickey led the rush on 12 totes for 79 yards. Caleb Douglas was the top receiver with five catches for 127 yard and a pair of touchdowns in the winning effort.
BYU vs Texas Tech Prediction
I’ll stay with Texas Tech. The Raiders blew right past West Virginia in their last outing, posting a nice 572 yards with 188 rush yards, 6.1 yards per play, 32 first downs and 14-of-21 on third-down tries. The offense did have a couple of turnovers, but the defense made up for it with a couple of takeaways on the other side. Texas Tech gave up just 180 total yards in the win with 3.3 yards per play, nine first downs and 2-of-13 on third-down attempts. That gives the Raiders 42 or more points in five of the last six outings.
The last time these teams met up back on November 8, the Raiders secured a 29-7 victory. Teas Tech scored in every quarter in that one, and didn’t allow BYU into the end zone until near the end of the game. The Raiders defense gave up just 255 total yards, 3.9 yards per play, 14 first downs and 3-of-14 on third-down tries alongside three takeaways. It was a great effort on both sides. This one likely won’t be so lopsided but I still like the Raiders in the end.
