NC State Tested in First Game
NC State were really tested in the first game against Western Carolina and for much of the game, it looked like they weren’t going to have much of a shot to win. The offense had to score 21 points in the 4th quarter to even come away with a 38-21 victory. Grayson McCall got his NC State out to a slow start, but he turned it on late and finished the game, completing 26 of his 40 passes for 318 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Running back Jordan Waters finished with 20 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Kevin Concepcion had a strong game out wide catching nine passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns. The defense had some struggles defending the passing game, and it’s going to be an even bigger test here. If they can’t slow down the passing here, it’s going to end up being a very long game. NC State will play against Louisiana Tech and Clemson following this game.
Tennessee Dominated Early
Tennessee in the first game dominated Chattanooga and they were able to secure the 69-3 victory. At the end of the first quarter, they were up 24-0 and they never looked back on the way to the blowout. The defense did give up a field goal in the third quarter but that was the only point they gave up. Volunteer fans are excited about quarterback Nico Iamaleava and he completed 22 of his 28 passes for 314 yards, three touchdowns, and zero interceptions. Dylan Sampson had a huge game on the ground and he rushed 12 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
The defense really stepped up for Tennessee and even the yards that Chattanooga was able to get, were tough yards. In this game, Tennessee is going to need to get out to a fast start and they are going to need to try and really put the pressure on the NC State offense. If they can make McCall uncomfortable they have a great chance here. Tennessee will meet Kent State and Oklahoma after this one.
Tennessee vs NC State Prediction
Tennessee and NC State are both going to put on a show with their offenses. NC State’s defense wasn’t crisp in the first game and it’s going to get even worse here against a much better offense in NC State. Iamaleava is going to have a huge game here, and he’s going to put on a show here. I do expect Grayson McCall is going to be able to put on a show with his arm, and that is going to be the difference here. This game is going to be a shootout, and the over is going to cash here.
