Baylor Dominated First Game

The Baylor Bears faced off against the Tarleton State Texans in the first game and they were able to secure the 45-3 victory. At the end of the first quarter, they were up 21-0 and they never looked back on the way to the victory. Dequan Finn was under center, and he played okay, but he also had a couple of mistakes. If those same mistakes happen here, this could end up being a bad loss. Finn completed 14 of his 22 passes for 192 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. Richard Reese finished with 18 carries for 78 yards. Dawson Pendergrass also rushed 17 times for 62 yards and a touchdown. Ketron Jackson Jr. Ashtyn Hawkins, and Michael Trigg all finished with one reception.

On defense, there could be a little improvement with the running defense, but the passing defense was elite. They allowed only 80 yards to go through the yard and they also picked off a pass. In this game, the run defense is going to need to be better, or there could be some problems. Baylor will take on Air Force after this game.

Utah Coming Off a Shutout

Utah, in the first game, faced off against Southern Utah, and they were able to secure the 49-0 victory. In three of the four quarters they only scored seven points, but in the second quarter, they put up 28 points. Cam Rising is back and could be a dark horse to win the Heisman Trophy. In Game 1, Rising completed 10 of his 15 passes for 254 yards and five touchdowns. They also used a running back by committee and there were eight different backs that finished with at least 12 yards. 

Wide receiver Dijon Stanley is the real deal and he caught three passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, they were elite, but this is going to be a much bigger test. They allowed only 71 yards through the air. They did give up a few yards on the ground, but they still didn’t allow a point. 

Baylor vs Utah Prediction

Baylor looked impressive in the first game, but this is going to be a down year for them, and it’s going to get ugly here. Rising is playing well and with a ton of confidence, and in this game he’s going to have a huge game. The Utah defense is also going to step up and Baylor is going to really struggle to get any sort of offense. This is going to be a comfortable victory here by the Utes. Back Utah against the spread.
