The Colorado State Rams and Texas Longhorns meet Saturday in week 1 college football action at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Here’s a Colorado State vs Texas Prediction. This article will include a Colorado State vs Texas Pick.
Colorado State Rams Betting Preview
The Colorado State Rams won 5 games last season and enter the third year under coach Jay Norvell. Colorado State hasn’t made a bowl appearance since the 2017 season. Colorado State has one of the most underrated quarterbacks in the country, as Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi threw for 3,400 yards and 22 touchdowns as a freshman last season. Running back Justin Marshall should enter the starting role after averaging 5.4 yards per touch as a backup, while Tory Horton is back after 96 receptions.
Defensively, Jack Howell returns after leading Colorado State with 114 tackles, Chase Wilson had 3.5 sacks and Henry Blackburn had 3 interceptions. Colorado State returns a lot of key production from last season on both sides of the ball, which leads me to believe this is a sneaky MWC contender. At the very least, Colorado State should snap that 6-year bowl drought.
Texas Longhorns Betting Preview
The Texas Longhorns won 12 games last season and enter this year as a title contend win the fourth year under coach Steve Sarkisian. Quinn Ewers is one of the top quarterbacks in the curry after throwing for 3,400 yards and 22 touchdowns last season. Ewers has plenty of options around him in Isaiah Neyor, Isaiah Bond, Amari Niblack, Matthew Golden and Silas Bolden. CJ Baxter is a rising star at running back, and Texas returns four starters along the offensive line.
Defensively, Anthony Hill Jr. returns after 67 tackles, Ethan Burke had 5.5 sacks and Michael Taaffe had 3 interceptions. The Texas secondary does have concerns, but the Longhorns overall are a threat due to what should be one of the best offenses in college football. Anything short of a playoff berth in Austin should be considered a disappointment.
Why the Texas Longhorns will win
- Texas has won each of its last seven games at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
- Colorado State has lost eight of its last nine road games.
- Colorado State has failed to cover the spread in seven of its last eight season openers.
- Texas has covered the spread in six of its last seven games against non-AP-ranked teams.
Total Points Facts
- Eight of Texas' last 10 games against non-AP-ranked teams have gone UNDER the total points line.
- Each of Colorado State's last three road games have gone UNDER the total points line.
Matchup/League Facts
- Texas was one of only 10 FBS teams to remain undefeated in road games last season (5-0) (min. 8 games).
- Texas ranked T11th among FBS teams for Q4 win percentage last season (.643).
- Colorado State recorded the equal-most home wins by a margin of three points or less of any FBS team last season (2).
- Colorado State suffered the equal-most road losses by a margin of 10 points or less of any FBS team last season (4).
Colorado State vs Texas Prediction
The Texas Longhorns are the bigger profile program, have a number next to their name, and have far more household names. However, this line is inflated when you consider the talent Colorado State has on its roster. Colorado State is experienced on both sides of the ball and has a quarterback who is fresh off a hell of a season and was receiving calls from Georgia and USC, according to his father. I'm not saying Colorado State has the horses to spring an upset, but this line is a bit absurd if we're being honest. Give me Colorado State and the points.
