The South Florida Bulls and Houston Cougars face off on Saturday in a college football showdown at TDECU Stadium. When these two teams faced off last November it was Houston that secured the 54-42 victory.
South Florida comes into this game with a 1-6 record overall and they have lost four games in a row. In the last game against Tulane, the offense was fine, but the defense really struggled giving up 45 points and that led to the defeat. Gerry Bohanon was hurt in the last game and he is now out for the season. Katravis Marsh came in and completed 7 of his 15 passes for 150 yards, two touchdowns, and zero interceptions. South Florida is averaging 25.3 points while their defense is giving up 37.6 points per game.
On the other side of this matchup is the Houston Cougars who sit with a 4-3 record overall and this has been mostly a disappointing season. Even though they have struggled, they have won two games in a row. In the last game against Navy, Houston scored 38 points and that led to the 18-point victory. Quarterback Clayton Tune had a big game completing 21 of his 30 passes for 261 yards and five touchdowns. Houston is averaging 32.3 points while their defense is giving up 31.7 points per game. In this game, if Houston wants to get the job done they are going to need the defense to be strong.
South Florida is 9-2 against the spread in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record. Houston is 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games on turf. The under is 6-1 in the Bulls last seven road games. The over is 6-1 in Houston’s last seven games overall.
South Florida’s defense has been awful and this Houston offense has been good. Look for Houston to get another big game from Clayton Tune and he will throw for at least three touchdowns here. South Florida’s offense isn’t good enough to keep up. This is a game where I think Houston gets over the 50-point mark. Back Houston against the spread.
