The Memphis Tigers and UCF Knights face off on Friday in an AAC college football showdown at Bright House Networks Stadium. When these two teams last faced off in October in 2020, Memphis won 50-49.
The Memphis Tigers had high expectations heading into this season but they currently sit with a 4-3 record and they have lost two of their last three games. The defense wasn’t great in each of the two losses including two games ago against Tulsa where they gave up 35 points. Memphis is averaging 35.86 points while the defense is giving up 30.43 points per game. Under center for Memphis is Seth Henigan who has thrown for 2,153 yards, 16 touchdowns, and four interceptions. Running back Brandon Thomas has rushed for 642 yards and seven touchdowns. The offense will need to be good in this game, but most importantly it’s going to need to be the defense that is better.
On the other side of this matchup is the UCF Knights who have also struggled this season sitting with a 3-3 record overall, and a 1-5 record against the spread. The last game against Cincinnati, UCF really struggled, giving up 56 points. Central Florida is averaging 34.17 points while the defense is giving up 32.17 points per game. UCF has dealt with a ton of injuries this season and they have turned to Freshman Mikey Keene to start. In his last start, he threw for 141 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Keene has thrown for 568 yards, four touchdowns, and four interceptions.
Memphis is 1-8 against the spread in their last nine road games. UCF is 3-8 against the spread in their last 11 home games. Memphis is 0-7 against the spread in their last seven meetings in Central Florida. The home team is 13-1 in the last 14 meetings between the two teams.
Memphis doesn’t cover the spreads in Central Florida, and I don’t see that changing in this game. I expect Memphis is going to struggle to score, and Keene is going to not turn the ball over. UCF is going to score at least 34 points and cover the spread.
