Tereza Valentova knocked out defending champion Marie Bouzkova to reach her second successive semifinal at the Prague Open. The all-Czech clash certainly delivered in a rematch of last year, which Bouzkova won, but this time, with a different outcome.

Valentova was outplayed in the opening set, dropping her serve at least three times. The 19-year-old then trailed 0-2 at the start of the second set, but she managed to turn things around with some fearless shotmaking. The second set featured some momentum swings until the ninth game, when Valentova broke and then held to love to level the match. 

The third set was decided in a tiebreak and Valentova needed three match points to secure victory. Valentova landed 71% of first serves in play and won 60% of first serve points (37/62). Valentova won 32% of second serve points (8/25) and saved 5 out of 11 break points.

Daria Snigur continues to have an excellent week at the Prague after notching another impressive straight sets victory. Snigur beat Lanlana Tararudee 6-0, 6-3 in an hour and 11 minutes to progress.  In the victory, Snigur landed 62% of first serves in play and won 77% of first serve points (24/31). Snigur won 42% of second serve points (8/19) and saved two of three break points in the match.

Her biggest hurdle at this level was overpressing and inconsistent shot selection. But she’s struck a fine balance between controlled aggression and intelligent shot selection all week and this might be the statement win she needs to reach the final.
