Novak Djokovic will begin his chase for a third Monte Carlo Masters crown. Djokovic hasn’t lifted an ATP title in over a year and is coming off a finals defeat to Czech teenager Jakub Mensik in Miami, where he was the overwhelming favorite to win his 100th career title. Ultimately, he fell short, losing to the inspired Mensik in two tie-break sets. Djokovic was carrying an eye infection into that match, which has been bothering him in the lead-up to the Monte Carlo Masters this week.

He has said that the condition has gotten better and did not see a reason to pull out from the event. Djokovic’s preparations for the French Open will now begin in a very familiar environment in a place he calls his home. He has won the tournament on two occasions, famously beating 11-time champion Rafael Nadal in 2013 and winning it a second time in 2015. Because he is the third seed, Djokovic got a bye in the first round.

Alejandro Tabilo Preview

Alejandro Tabilo won his opening match at the 2025 Monte Carlo Masters against former champion Stan Wawrinka in an epic. The match took 31 games to decide and lasted two hours and 28 minutes. Tabilo overcame a slow start to prevail 1-6, 7-5, 7-5. In the victory, Tabilo hit 30 winners and 37 unforced errors, including three aces and five double faults.

The Chilean landed 56% of first serves in play and won 67% of first serve points (38/57). Tabilo won 43% of second serve points (19/44) and saved seven of 12 breakpoints. He won 43% of return points (49/115) and converted five of 13 breakpoints. Tabilo picked up only his third win of 2025 after an awful start to the season saw him lose six straight matches. 

This is his second main draw appearance in Monte Carlo. He was knocked out in the second round stage last year by eventual finalist Casper Ruud.
