Kaja Juvan reached her first WTA quarterfinal of the season at the Hamburg Open. The Slovenian started the tournament with a 7-6, 6-1 victory over Maria Timofeeva. World No. 133 Romero Gormaz upset former champion Arantxa Rus to reach her first Tour-level quarterfinal. The Spaniard recorded a straight-sets win in just 68 minutes. She won the first set 6-2, breaking Rus at least three times and dropping her serve once. In the second set, Romero Gormaz had the perfect start as she took a 2-0 lead with an early break. After saving two break points to hold for 4-2, she broke Rus for a second time in the set and served for the match to love. She won 6-2, 6-2 and secured her spot in the last eight. Overall, she hit two aces and three double faults in the match. She landed 61% of first serves and won 75% of first serve points (21/28).
