The Line: Medvedev -500 / Basilashvili +320
Defending champion Daniil Medvedev will face Georgian qualifier Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final of the Almaty Open. The match is scheduled for Sunday, October 25. Here’s our Daniil Medvedev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili prediction. This preview will include a Daniil Medvedev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili pick.
Daniil Medvedev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili Preview
Daniil Medvedev reached his second final of this year’s Asian swing thanks to a retirement by Alexander Bublik in the Almaty Open semifinals. Medvedev had taken the first set 6-3 when Bublik was forced to retire due to a knee injury. Before that, Medvedev had beaten Shimabukuro and Terence Atmane in straight sets. Medvedev will look to win his fourth title of the season.
Nikoloz Basilashvili reached his first ATP Tour final in four years with an impressive three-set victory over former Top 10 player Stefanos Tsitsipas. Basilashvili, who earned his way into the Almaty Open main draw by qualifying, beat the Greek 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 in two hours and 17 minutes. Basilashvili hit 7 aces and won 92% of first serve points (45/49) during the match. He saved all three break points he faced. This is his first Tour-level final since the 2022 Qatar Open.
Daniil Medvedev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili Head-To-Head
Medvedev and Basilashvili have met once on the ATP Tour. Medvedev won a first-round match at the 2022 Vienna Open in straight sets.
Daniil Medvedev vs Nikoloz Basilashvili Prediction
Medvedev is the strong favorite here as he looks to defend his title at the Almaty Open. Basilashvili deserves his spot in the final. The Georgian has a knack for producing deep runs out of nowhere, and he can make this a very uncomfortable spot for Medvedev if he catches fire. He was outstanding on serve against Tsitsipas (only four points dropped behind the first serve), but against Medvedev’s defensive range, I think it will likely misfire a few times. That said, I’m not ruling out the Georgian from nicking a set if he continues to fire winners at will.
