Barbora Krejcikova and Veronika Kudermetova meet in the second round of the 2025 French Open at Roland Garros. The match is scheduled for Thursday, May 29. Here’s our Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova prediction. This preview will also include a Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova pick.
Barbora Krejcikova Preview
Barbora Krejcikova is the 15th seed at this year’s French Open. She is a former champion. But she lost in the first round in each of the last three editions. Krecjikova returned to winning ways in Paris, getting her first win since 2021. She downed Germany’s Tatjana Maria in straight sets to kick off her campaign.
Krejcikova briefly led 4-2 in the first set, but was broken back. The set was decided in a tie-break. The Czech did not fall for Maria’s tricks and got off to a flyer in the breaker with a couple of mini breaks before sealing it. In the second set, Krejcikova recovered from a break deficit twice before she prevailed 6-3. Krejcikova hit 44 winners and 31 unforced errors during the win. That included two aces and four double faults.
Krejcikova landed 68% of first serves in play and won 63% of first serve points (30/48). She won 61% of second serve points (14/23) and saved three of seven breakpoints. This was only her second match of the season. Krecjikova missed the first four months of the season because of a chronic back injury. She returned in the last warm-up event before Roland Garros at Strasbourg and lost her opening match there.
Veronika Kudermetova Preview
Veronika Kudermetova is 46th in the WTA rankings. She opened her 2025 French Open campaign with a 7-5, 6-1 win against 64th-ranked Viktoriya Tomova of Bulgaria. Kudermetova trailed by a double break in the first set, but still won it 7-5, saving a set point along the way.
In the second set, Kudermetova broke Tomova three times to wrap up a clinical set 6-1. The match lasted for an hour and 34 minutes. Kudermetova finished the match with 34 winners and 41 unforced errors. That included six aces and two double faults. The Russian landed 59% of first serves in play and won 67% of first serve points (26/39). Kudermetova won 44% of second serve points (12/27) and saved two of five breakpoints.
Kudermetova bounced back from her loss in Rome to Raducanu. She improves to 8-4 on clay this season. Kudermetova had lost in the first round at Roland Garros in each of the last two seasons. This was her first win since 2022 when she made the quarterfinals.
Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova Head-To-Head
Krejcikova and Kudermetova have met five times at all levels. Kudermetova holds a slender 3-2 lead. On clay, the head-to-head is tied at 1-1, although it was Krejcikova who won when they met in French Open qualifying seven years ago.
Barbora Krejcikova vs Veronika Kudermetova Prediction
Krejcikova is the underdog here at +17,0 which is huge. She’s a former champion and the ultimate slow-court chess player. I think the bookies are factoring in her inactivity period during the first four months, when she was nursing a back injury.
Krejcikova looked very good in her opening match, escaping with a straight-sets win against the unorthodox style of Tatjana Maria. Kudermetova brings pure power and an aggressive mindset in her play, but she often lacks a plan B when rallies become longer and tense. I like Krejcikova’s chances of outsmarting her, and we shouldn’t forget Kudermetova has also been dealing with physical discomfort in some of her matches in the buildup to the French Open, so she might not be the fitter of the two players.
