Denis Shapovalov vs Fabian Marozsan Preview
Denis Shapovalov snapped a three-match losing streak in the first round of the Munich Open. Shapovalov beat Tallon Griekspoor in three sets. The match took 27 games to decide. Shapovalov prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in two hours and 4 minutes. The manner of Shapovalov’s recovery during the match, especially in that third set, was particularly encouraging as the Canadian registered a first tour level victory since Indian Wells in early March. In the victory, Shapovalov fired 32 winners to 32 unforced errors. Shapovalov accounted for 3 aces and 6 double faults. He landed 59% of first serves in play and won 65% of first serve points (31/48). Shapovalov won 62% of second serve points (21/34) and saved three of six break points. Shapovalov won 42% of return points in the match (36/85). This was also his first win in the tournament.
Fabian Marozsan extended Stefanos Tsitsipas’ misery at tour level. The Hungarian beat the struggling Greek from a set down to reach the second round of the Munich Open. It looked like Tsitsipas had turned a corner when he won the first set comfortably with two breaks of serve, and had a match point late in the second set. But Marozsan saved a match point on his serve and forced a tiebreak.
In the tiebreak, Marozsan established a 6-2 lead and although it took him four tries, he converted a set point to level the match. The third set stayed on serve until the 10th game. Marozsan broke to secure a huge win over the former World No. 3. Marozsan hit 23 winners and 35 unforced errors in the match. He won 78% of first serve points (46/59) and saved three of five break points.
