Aryna Sabalenka survived a major scare against Linda Noskova in the quarterfinals to keep her title defense at the US Open alive. Sabalenka was pushed by the reigning Wimbledon champion all the way in a very entertaining match that required a final set 10-point tiebreak to decide. Before that, Sabalenka had battled back from a break down in the third set, and prevailed in tiebreak 10-8. The match lasted two hours and 22 minutes. It was the first time in the tournament that Sabalenka had dropped a set.In the victory, Sabalenka hit 42 winners and committed 30 unforced errors. Pegula dropped the first set 6-3 in 50 minutes, but managed to level the match with a late break in the second set. Pegula recovered from a break down in the third set to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 22 minutes.
In the victory, Pegula hit 31 winners and committed 30 unforced errors. Pegula tallied 6 aces and 8 double faults in the match. She landed 61% of first serves in play and won 69% of first serve points (42/61). Pegula won 41% of second serve points (16/39) and saved 8 of 12 break points in the match. This is her third successive semifinal at the US Open. Pegula has lost to Sabalenka in her last two US Opens.
