Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur clash in the quarterfinal of the 2024 French Open. The match is scheduled for Wedneday, June 5. Here's our Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur prediction.
Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur Preview
For the second match in a row, Alexander Zverev needed five sets to win. He outlasted Holger Rune 4-6, 6-1, 5-7, 7-6, 6-2 in four hours and 15 minutes. The fourth seed served 16 aces in the match to three double faults. He won 77% of first-serve points and converted eight of 23 beak points. Zverev will need to improve on that second serve, in which he won less than half of the points (17 from 39) and was broken six times. Overall, it was a great win for the Rome champion, who will pursue a fourth semifinal appearance at Roland Garros.
Alex de Minaur will contest his first quarterfinal at the French Open. He is the first Australian male player to do so in 20 years, emulating his idol Lleyton Hewitt. De Minaur had never scaled the second-round stage at the clay-court Grand Slam in seven previous visits, but he's more than punched above his weight this fortnight. The draw certainly opened up nicely for him as he didn't have to face a seeded opponent until the fourth round, where he scored an upset win over fifth-seed Daniil Medvedev. He won that contest in four sets, which took 34 games to decide. He won 76% of points behind his first serve and 60% behind his second serve. He would also break the Russian's serve with ease (seven times).
Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur Head-To-Head
• Zverev leads De Minaur 7-2 in their head-to-head in all competitions.
• Zverev won their only clay-court meeting at the 2022 Italian Open.
• The German is 14-3 on clay this term, while De Minaur is 10-4 on the same surface.
Alexander Zverev vs Alex de Minaur Prediction
Zverev is on a 10-match win streak, and he's still buoyed by that victory over 14-time champion Rafael Nadal in the first round. But he's clearly not getting carried away, pulling through in back-to-back five-setters in his last two rounds. This is a career first for Alex de Minaur reaching this stage of the French Open, and he's been a steady performer who is always ready to pounce on his opponents' mistakes. I'd still pick Zverev to win this match based on his versatility, big serve, and experience on this surface, but do not sleep on the Aussie from stealing a set.
