The Toronto Raptors and the Boston Celtics duke it out at the TD Garden on Wednesday night.
The Toronto Raptors have been in decent shape so far as they’ve won six of their first 11 games overall, but they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting stopped by the Nets in a 116-103 home loss on Sunday. Fred VanVleet led the team with 21 points and eight assists, OG Anunoby added 16 points with eight rebounds and three assists, Pascal Siakam added 15 points while Gary Trent Jr chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Raptors shot 47 percent from the field and seven of 30 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in control after pouring in 34 points in the second quarter to take a seven-point lead into halftime, but they just couldn’t hang with the Nets in the third quarter where they managed just 17 points to see their lead quickly disappear.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics have been in a real funk so far as they’ve lost six of their first 10 games and they will be hoping to bounce back in this one after falling just short to the Mavericks in a painful 107-104 road loss on Saturday. Jayson Tatum led the team with 32 points and 11 rebounds on 12 of 19 shooting, Dennis Schroder added 20 points with six assists while Robert Williams chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Celtics shot 48 percent from the field and nine of 31 from the 3-point line as they fought hard to rally back from an early 19-point lead, but with the scores tied with just 1:39 remaining, the Celtics went empty on three consecutive possessions, before the Mavericks stole the game on a clutch game-winning 3-pointer from Luka Doncic with 0.6 seconds remaining.
Looking at the betting trends, the Raptors are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games, 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on two days’ rest and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a double-digit loss at home. The Celtics are 0-4 ATS in their last four home games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games playing on three or more days’ rest.
Head to head, the under is 9-4 in the last 13 meetings overall and the Raptors are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings in Boston.
The Raptors are slowly getting healthier as a team, but it has yet to bear fruit as they’re coming into this one with two losses in their last two outings. The Celtics are coming into this one a little low on confidence after getting beaten by the Mavericks at the buzzer and they will be a little shorthanded as Jaylen Brown is expected to miss up to two weeks with a hamstring injury. It’s hard to split these two teams at the moment, but the Raptors are 5-0 ATS in their last five road games and I think they represent decent value as the road underdogs in this spot.
