The Tampa Bay Rays and the Cleveland Guardians will meet Sunday afternoon in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio. Let’s take a look at this matchup from a betting perspective.

Tampa Bay Rays Betting Preview

The Tampa Bay Rays enter Sunday afternoon’s contest with a 98-64 overall record (1st in the American League East) and a 43-38 mark on the road. Tampa Bay’s has been productive this season. Upon completion of the 2026 regular season, the Rays tallied 736 runs scored, 169 home runs and a .258 team batting average which ranks first in Major League Baseball.

Tampa Bay arrives at tomorrow’s playoff contest in a form, winning five of the team’s last seven postseason games, including a 3-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians four days ago.

The Rays will start right hander Drew Rasmussen in this game. In 30 starts made in 2026, Rasmussen compiled a 16-5 win-loss record (3rd in MLB), 2.67 ERA (7th in MLB), 174 strikeouts and a 0.91 WHIP in 172 innings pitched. Drew Ramussen has performed relatively well recently, allowing two earned runs or less in three of his last four starts made this season.

Turning our attention to the Rays offense, the Tampa Bay lineup features Junior Caminero and Chandler Simpson. Junior Caminero has compiled 42 home runs, 101 RBIs and an .885 OPS. Chandler Simpson has amassed a .306 batting average, 46 stolen bases and a .689 OPS.

Cleveland Guardians Betting Preview

The Cleveland Guardians enter Sunday’s matchup with an 85-77 record (1st in the American League Central) and a 41-40 mark on the road. Cleveland arrives at this playoff contest in good form, winning five of the team’s seven postseason games, including a 7-3 defeat of the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this month.

The Guardians will start left hander Parker Messick in this contest. In 32 starts made this season, Messick compiled a 12-9 win-loss record, a stellar 2.56 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP and 193 strikeouts in 186.1 innings pitched. Messick has pitched at a high level recently, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts made in 2026.

The Guardians lineup features shortstop Brayan Rocchio and outfielder Chase DeLauter. Brayan Rocchio has amassed a .253 batting average, 15 home runs, 73 RBIs and a .705 OPS. Chase DeLauter has tallied a .287 batting average, 14 home runs and an .820 OPS.

Tampa Bay Rays vs. Cleveland Guardians Prediction

In my view, the way to go in this matchup is the total rather than a side. Why? Tampa Bay starting pitcher Drew Rasmussen has been exceptional in 2026, compiling a 16-5 win-loss record (3rd in MLB), 2.67 ERA (7th in MLB), 174 strikeouts and a 0.91 WHIP in 172 innings pitched. Similarly, Cleveland hurler Parker Messick has pitched at a high level recently, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five starts made this season. I envision a game where quality pitching from both teams limits overall offensive production. With that said, I am backing under 7.5 runs in this game.

Hans Geevers's Pick: Under 7.5
