The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers meet Wednesday in MLB action from American Family Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Milwaukee Brewers prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The Pittsburgh Pirates will send out Martin Perez for the start here and Perez is 1-4 with a 4.85 ERA and 52 strikeouts this season. In his career, Perez is 0-2 with an 8.66 ERA and 10 strikeouts against Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Brewers will send out Tobias Myers for the start here and Myers is 5-3 with a 3.52 ERA and 56 strikeouts this season. This will be Myers’ second career start against the Pirates.

Pittsburgh Pirates Recap

The Pittsburgh Pirates come into this one looking to build on a 12-2 win over the Brew Crew in Tuesday’s series opener. The win was a welcome sight for the Pirates after a series split with the Mets in this past weekend’s four-game set.

Pirates Trying To Climb Back In NL Playoff Race

Bryan Reynolds leads the Pirates with 103 hits with 19 doubles along with 17 home runs and 56 RBIs while Andrew McCutchen has 12 home runs and Jack Suwinski has 6 stolen bases. Oneil Cruz has 7 stolen bases and 107 strikeouts while also posting 16 doubles, 14 home runs and 41 RBIs and Connor Joe has a .242 batting average and 16 doubles as well this season.

Why the Pittsburgh Pirates will win

  • The underdogs have won four of the Brewers’ last five games.
  • The Brewers have lost each of their last three games as favorites.
  • The Pirates have covered the run line in seven of their last eight road games against teams that held a winning record.
  • The Brewers have failed to cover the run line in seven of their last eight night games against NL Central opponents following a home loss.

Milwaukee Brewers Recap

The Milwaukee Brewers will try for a bounce back performance after their blowout loss in Tuesday’s series opener. It was not an ideal start to the series for the Brewers who are still licking their wounds after a series loss to the Dodgers this past weekend.

Brewers Still Leading The Way In NL Central

William Contreras leads the Brewers with 106 hits including 22 doubles and 52 RBIs along with 10 home runs and a .359 OBP while Rhys Hoskins has 13 home runs with 43 RBIs and Willy Adames has 20 doubles with 13 home runs and 58 RBIs. Brice Turang leads the Brewers with 29 stolen bases while Adames has a team-high 87 strikeouts as well this season.

Why the Milwaukee Brewers will win

  • The Brewers have won each of their last seven games at American Family Field following a loss.
  • The Pirates have lost each of their last seven night games against the Brewers at American Family Field following a road win.
  • The Brewers have covered the run line in each of their last four home games against National League opponents following a loss.
  • The Pirates have failed to cover the run line in five of their last six night games following a road win.

Pirates vs. Brewers Prediction

I’m on the Brewers here. I just flat out don’t trust the Pirates to string consistent offensive performances together as that has not been Pittsburgh’s M.O. for much of the season. The Brewers were beat down and were out of it pretty early in Tuesday’s matchup, but I think with how badly they beat on Perez in the matchup earlier this season, I think the Brew Crew get some revenge. Perez is normally a guy that pitches to a high-four, low-five ERA by season’s end, and for his ERA to be where it is right now is just flat out unsustainable. I think the Brewers get their pound of flesh on Wednesday. Give me Milwaukee.

Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Milwaukee -156
