The Line: Betting Odds: St. Louis +1.5 — Over/Under: +7.5
Milwaukee Brewers vs St. Louis Cardnials
Pick: YRFI
The Milwaukee Brewers will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium in the opener of a three-game series. The Brewers come in with a strong 93–59 record and sit firmly atop the NL Central, while the Cardinals are 74–79 and playing more for pride at this point. Milwaukee will hand the ball to young right-hander Jacob Misiorowski, who is 5–2 with a 4.35 ERA, while St. Louis counters with veteran Sonny Gray, who has gone 13–8 with a 4.43 ERA and 187 strikeouts. We saw these two pitchers play just last week, and 17 total runs were scored in that game. Misiorowski just hasn’t been the same guy as we saw when he started his MLB tenure, and Sony Gray has an ERA over 5.00 in his last 5 starts. I see this being a high-scoring game, and I expect both of these offenses to get going early.
Seattle Mariners vs Houston Astros
Pick: NRFI
The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros meet at Daikin Park in a crucial AL West showdown. Seattle enters the game at 83-69, while Houston holds a slim edge in the standings at 84-69, making this matchup pivotal in both the division and Wild Card races. The pitching duel features Bryan Woo for the Mariners, who has put together a strong season with a 14-7 record and a 3.02 ERA, against Houston’s Hunter Brown, who has been even more dominant with a 12-7 record and a 2.27 ERA. This is the best pitching matchup for today’s slate, and I expect both guys to get out of the first inning untouched. Taking the under at Daikin Park has been a profitable strategy, and with Woo & Brown on the mound, this should be another low-scoring Astros home game. Let’s back these starters to get us out of the first inning untouched.
Cleveland Guardians vs Minnesota Twins
Pick: NRFI
The Minnesota Twins will host the Cleveland Guardians at Target Field in a matchup that carries far more weight for Cleveland than it does for Minnesota. The Guardians enter play at 80–71, surging in the standings and looking to strengthen their postseason push, while the Twins sit at 66–86 and well out of contention. Cleveland will send Logan Allen to the mound, backed by a pitching staff that owns an impressive 3.77 team ERA, one of the better marks in baseball, though their offense has been inconsistent throughout the season. Minnesota will counter with Pablo López, one of the brighter spots in an otherwise disappointing rotation, as the Twins look to play spoiler at home. I expect Pablo Lopez to get us 3 outs against this Guardians rotation that has consistently struggled to produce. This NRFI will come down to Logan Allen getting 3 outs, and I believe he’s capable against this Twins lineup. If we can avoid a Bryan Buxton home run, I expect us to be in the clear.
