Kansas City opened up their year with a series loss in three games versus the Cleveland Guardians, then took another loss in a set versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The Royals finally won a series versus the Baltimore Orioles, taking two of three, then won three of four versus the Minnesota Twins. After losses in two of three in their rematch versus the Guardians, KC got swept by the Yankees. In Thursday’s opener versus the Tigers, the Royals were out-hit 12-7 in a 6-1 loss. Maikel Garcia had the team’s lone RBI, and starting pitcher Michael Lorenzen had 4.2 innings with four earned runs.

On Friday in game two the Royals scored twice in the top of the ninth inning but it wasn’t enough to make the comeback in a 7-3 los. Vinnie Pasquantino finished with two RBI, two hits and a run. Bobby Witt added two hits and two runs, while starting pitcher Cole Ragans had 4.0 innings with five earned on six hits and three walks.

As starter for Saturday’s matchup, the Royals will send out Seth Lugo. This year Lugo is 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA in four starts over 23.1 innings. Lugo is 57-42 with a 3.39 ERA in 338 career games (101 starts) at the MLB level.

Detroit Tigers Betting Preview

Over on the Tigers’ side, they got swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in their opening series, then won two of three versus the Seattle Mariners ahead of a sweep over the White Sox. Detroit won two of three versus the New York Yankees then repeated that feat versus the Minnesota Twins. Early in the week Detroit lost two of three to the Brewers. On Thursday the Tigers notched three runs in the third inning during the victory. Spencer Torkelson had two hits, a run and three RBI. Reese Olson had 5.0 clean frames with four hits and two walks as starter.

In the Friday matchup Detroit scored there times in the fifth inning on the way to the victory. Andy Ibanez had a solo homer, while Tomas Nido had three hits with an RBI. Starting pitcher Jackson Jobe had 5.0 innings with one earned run.

Casey Mize will step into the starter slot for the Tigers on Saturday. This year Mize is 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA in three starts over 17.1 innings. Mize is 11-20 with a 4.26 ERA in 64 games (62 starts) overall in his career.

Royals vs Tigers Prediction

I’ll go with the Tigers, but Mize could use a good start here. In his last outing Mize took a loss to the Twins with 5.2 innings and four earned runs on April 13. Prior to that however, Mize had just one earned over 11.2 innings in a pair of starts, winning both. As for Lugo, he’s got losses in each of his last two starts, notching a total of six earned in 12.1 innings combined. Lugo gave up four earned on seven hits and two walks in 6.2 innings versus the Yankees during his last outing.

Detroit posted a pretty nice all-around victory on Friday, but also gave up 10 hits on the other side. The Tigers had plenty of offense to go around however, so if they can keep it up Saturday the team will be in great shape.
