The Miami Marlins and the Colorado Rockies square off Tuesday in MLB action from Coors Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a Miami Marlins vs. Colorado Rockies prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Miami Marlins will start Roddery Munoz here and Munoz is 2-7 with a 5.98 ERA and 70 strikeouts this season. This will be Munoz’s second career start against the Rockies. The Colorado Rockies will trot out Cal Quantrill here and Quantrill is 8-9 with a 4.56 ERA and 101 strikeouts this season. This will be Quantrill’s first career start against Miami.
Miami Marlins Recap
The Miami Marlins will look to rebound after starting the series with a 3-2 loss in Monday’s series opener. The loss put the Marlins at risk of yet another series loss after falling flat against the Mets, Diamondbacks and Cubs all in the last two weeks.
Marlins Playing Out The String
Jake Burger leads the Marlins with 25 home runs and 57 RBIs along with 103 hits while Jesus Sanchez has 16 home runs and 52 RBIs with 19 doubles. Xavier Edwards also has a team-high 22 stolen bases while Burger has the dubious distinction of leading the Marlins with 120 strikeouts this season.
Why the Miami Marlins will win
- The Rockies have lost 13 of their last 14 home games against National League opponents following a home win.
- The road team has won six of the Marlins' last eight games.
- The Rockies have failed to cover the run line in each of their last eight games as favorites against NL East opponents.
- The road team has covered the run line in seven of the Marlins' last eight games.
Colorado Rockies Recap
The Colorado Rockies will be looking to keep the ball rolling after a solid start to the series by eking out the win in Monday’s opener. The win put the Rockies in a good spot to bounce back from back-to-back series losses to the Yankees and Nationals in the last week.
Rockies Winning Games At Home
Ezequiel Tovar leads the Rockies with 144 hits including a team-high 37 doubles, 19 home runs and 55 RBIs with 164 strikeouts as well this season while Ryan McMahon has 17 home runs and 58 RBIs along with 25 doubles and 149 strikeouts as well. Brenton Doyle’s added 22 doubles, 21 home runs, 63 RBIs and a team-high 25 stolen bases as well as 4 triples and Tovar has a team-best .271 batting average this season. Michael Toglia’s also chipped in 21 home runs as well this season.
Why the Colorado Rockies will win
- The Marlins have lost each of their last seven night games against National League opponents.
- The home team has won each of the last five games between the Marlins and Rockies.
- The Marlins have failed to cover the run line in each of their last six night games against NL West opponents following a loss.
- The Rockies have covered the run line in four of their last five home games against teams that held a losing record.
Marlins vs. Rockies Prediction
I’m on the Rockies here. I just like the way the Rockies have been producing at home and with the hitter-friendly nature of Coors Field, I think that Roddery Munoz is going to be in a bit of trouble here. Munoz’s biggest issue this season has been giving up home runs and I think that it’s going to be problematic here against a Rockies team that continues to just play well at home. Quantrill’s one of the rare pitchers that’s actually pitching better in Colorado and the Marlins, regardless of who is on the other side, just continue to struggle offensively. I think the Rockies get it done in this one so give me Colorado at home.
