The Line: Betting Odds: Oakland Athletics +103 / LA Angels -113 — Over/Under: 8
The Los Angeles Angels and the Oakland A’s square off Wednesday in MLB action from Oakland Coliseum. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction.
Starting Pitching Matchup
The Los Angeles Angels will start Davis Daniel here and Daniel is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 8 strikeouts this season. This will be Daniel’s first career start against the A’s. The Oakland A’s will send out Joey Estes for the start here and Estes is 2-3 with a 5.24 ERA and 39 strikeouts this season. This will be Estes’ second career start against the Angels.
Los Angeles Angels Recap
The Los Angeles Angels will look to rebound after starting the series on the wrong foot with a 7-5 loss in Tuesday’s series opener. The loss for the Halos wasn’t ideal after sweeping Oakland last week prior to their series win over the Detroit Tigers this past weekend.
Angels Trying To Keep Momentum Going After Recent Stumbles
Taylor Ward has 73 hits along with 16 doubles, 14 home runs and a team-high 43 RBIs. Mike Trout also has 10 home runs along with a pair of triples and 6 stolen bases, but remains out indefinitely with injury while Zach Neto has 19 doubles, 73 strikeouts and 11 stolen bases. Luis Rengifo also has a team-high 79 hits and 22 stolen bases while Jo Adell has 13 home runs, 36 RBIs and 9 stolen bases as well.
Why the Los Angeles Angels will win
- The Athletics have lost each of their last seven games after playing the previous day.
- The Angels have won each of their last six night games following a road loss.
- The Athletics have failed to cover the run line in each of their last seven games after playing the previous day.
- The Angels have covered the run line in each of their last nine Wednesday road games.
Oakland A’s Recap
The Oakland A’s come into this game hoping to pick up some momentum after picking up the W in the opening game on Tuesday. The win was a great start for the A’s who need a pick me up series after losing their sets with the Diamondbacks, Angels and Twins over the last week and a half.
A’s Looking For Consistent Offense, But Have Yet To Find It
Brent Rooker leads the A’s with 48 RBIs along with 16 home runs this season while Abraham Toro has 72 hits and 24 RBIs. JJ Bleday has a team-high 22 doubles, 3 triples, 75 hits and 30 RBIs and Toro has a .260 batting average. Rooker also has the unfortunate title of leading strikeout bat with 101 K’s at the dish this season. Shea Langeliers has also chipped in 15 home runs and 41 RBIs.
Why the Oakland Athletics will win
- The Angels have lost each of their last five games as road favorites.
- The underdogs have won each of the Angels’ last five games.
- The Angels have failed to cover the run line each of their last seven games at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum against teams that held a losing record.
- The home team has covered the run line in each of the last five games between the Angels and Athletics.
LA Angels vs Oakland Athletics Prediction
I’m on the Angels here. I was almost ready to write off the Angels after their poor showing on Tuesday, but the Halos started to show some fight although it was too little, too late. Bottom line for me is that the Oakland A’s and consistent offense are not terms that go hand-in-hand necessarily, and I haven’t loved what I’ve seen from Estes this year. It’s also hard to have good games against the same team in back-to-back starts. So give me the Angels here.
