The Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Guardians face off on Tuesday in an MLB showdown at Progressive Field. On Monday it was the Royals that were able to secure the 5-2 victory.
The Royals sit with a 65-95 record overall but they did get some good pitching on Monday on the way to the victory. Drew Waters also had a big game finishing with two hits and four RBIs. The Royals overall are averaging 3.97 runs per game which is 24th in the league. This is a lost season for the Royals and they are trying to get the young guys some at bats before the season finishes up.
On the other side of this matchup is the Cleveland Guardians who sit with a 90-70 record overall and they have the American League Central wrapped up. On Monday they actually outhit the Royals 8-6 but they couldn’t get any offense going and were defeated. The Guardians pitching has been the strength this season giving up 3.93 runs per game which is 9th best in baseball. Jose Ramirez is having a big season hitting 29 home runs and driving in 122 RBIs so far this season.
On the mound for the Royals will be Daniel Lynch who sits with a 4-12 record and an ERA of 4.96. In his last start against the Tigers, he went six innings giving up five hits and two runs.
On the mound for the Guardians will be Cal Quantrill who sits with a 14-5 record and an ERA of 3.49. Over his last two starts, he has gone 12 innings and given up only two runs.
The Royals are 0-4 in Lynch’s last four road starts. The Guardians are 12-1 in Quantrill’s last 13 starts on four days of rest. The over is 5-1 in the ROyals last six games against a team with a winning record.
There were only seven runs scored on Monday, and I don’t think they are going to even reach that number here. Lynch in his last start gave up only two runs and it was much of the same for Quantrill who gave up only two runs in his last start. Both offenses are going to struggle here, and this game will stay under the total.
