Pittsburgh Panthers Betting Preview

Pittsburgh came out of the gate strong this year, despite a couple of close calls. The opener was a blowout win over Miami-OH, then came a tight 12-7 win over UCF in game two. The Panthers followed that up with wins over Syracuse, Bucknell and Virginia Tech in the next three games. Through the first five that would give Pitt a nice 5-0 run in the books.

In last weekend’s matchup with North Carolina, the Panthers were up with a slim 10-7 lead by the break. Pittsburgh was outscored 14-7 the rest of the way however and ended up with a loss 21-17 in the end. QB Holden Geriner was 27-of-44 for 219 yards and two picks. Damon Ferguson led the rush in the losing effort with 15 carries for 49 yards.

Boston College Eagles Betting Preview

Over on the Boston College side, they’ve had a much rockier run at things this year. The Eagles got beaten 34-15 on the road in their opener versus Cincinnati, but came back with wins over Rutgers and Maine in the next pair. Boston College has suffered through a pair of losses to Virginia Tech and SMU since then though, giving the team a 2-3 run so far this year.

Matched up against SMU back on October 3, the Eagles had a slim 10-6 lead at the end of the first quarter but then gave up a TD in the second for a 13-10 halftime deficit. Two more SMU scores came after that, and Boston College would end up with a 25-16 loss in the end. QB Mason McKenzie was 20-of-31 in the loss for 208 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Pitt vs Boston College Prediction

I’ll stay with Pitt. The Panthers did a pretty good job defensively versus UNC last weekend, giving up just 13 first downs and 3-of-11 on third-down tries along with two takeaways. Pitt had a couple of picks on offense though, and mustered just 17 points despite holding the ball for 36:32 of game time. It was their lowest points total since scoring just 12 in a win over UCF on September 12.

As for Boston College, they didn’t look terrible versus a good SMU team in their last outing—though the 11 penalties for 95 yards didn’t help. The Eagles only gave up 218 total yards alongside 7-of-14 on third-down tries and 21 first downs defensively in that one. Boston College has been below 17 points in all three losses so far this year, so I don’t trust them to score very well these days.

Andrew Jett's Pick: Pittsburgh Panthers -6.5
