Northern Kentucky vs UTEP Prediction
I’ll stay with UTEP. Probably not touching it, though. The Miners have their work cut out for them this year as they debut in the Mountain West. The good news is that they’ve got some genuine talent on the roster in guys like Augusto Cassia (Ole Miss) and Leif Moeller (Evansville). The travel schedule will be easier this season, but there’s a lot more competition in the new conference.
As for Northern Kentucky, they added a couple more guys from Australia (oddly enough) during the offseason in senior Noah Pagotto (10.4 PPG at East Texas A&M) and junior Will Short (6.5 PPG at Niagara) to pair with Elliott on the floor. They’re not the deepest team in the world, but if the Norse can avoid injuries this season they should continue to be competitive in the conference.

Northern Kentucky Norse Betting Preview
Northern Kentucky managed to win 20 games last year with just 14 losses but they didn’t fare as well in the conference. The Norse were just 10-10 in Horizon League play, which caused them to finish ahead of only four other teams. After wins versus Oakland and Green Bay in the conference tournament, Northern Kentucky fell to Wright State in the semifinals.
This year Northern Kentucky will be going into head coach Darrin Horn’s eighth season at the helm. He’s generated a 134-90 record during that time. The Norse have just one returning starter from last season in point guard Ethan Elliott, who managed 5.1 PPG and finished 15th in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.32-1) and fourth in the conference in assists (146).
UTEP Miners Betting Preview
Over on the Miners’ side, they didn’t fare quite as well last season. UTEP limped to an 11-20 overall record and went just 7-13 in Conference USA games. That effort would put the team ahead of only Delaware in the standings. The Miners finished the season on a rough 1-5 run, beating only Kennesaw State during that stretch.
This year UTEP retains head coach Joe Golding, who is entering his sixth season with the school. The Miners officially moved to the Mountain West Conference in July, and they’re hoping the new surroundings will spark a better record this year. The team will be relying on a hefty batch of transfers, so chemistry will be key—especially in the early-going.
