UC Davis Aggies Betting Preview

The Aggies have been able to keep their heads above .500 so far this year, but it’s been a struggle. UC Davis lost four of their first seven versus Washington, Stanford, Norfolk State, and Oregon State, then took wins over Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, Sac State, and Idaho. A 2-4 run came next featuring losses to Pepperdine, CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, and Long Beach State. Following wins over Cal Poly, UC Santa Barbara, and Hawaii, the Aggies took losses to UC Riverside and UC Irvine, giving them a 12-10 overall record through 22 games. 

In the UC Irvine matchup on Saturday, the Aggies held a one-point lead going into the second half. UC Davis was outscored 40-32 the rest of the way however, resulting in a 73-66 loss in the end. Tops in scoring was TY Johnson with 21 points, six boards, and five assists during the defeat. The only other team player to finish in double-figures was Connor Sevilla with 11 points, two assists, and one rebound in 37 minutes of action on the court. 

Long Beach State Beach Betting Preview

Over on the Long Beach State side, they opened on a rough 1-8 stretch this year, featuring losses to South Dakota State, San Francisco, Portland, Gonzaga, Fresno State, UNC Greensboro, UTEP, and San Jose State. After wins over CSU Fullerton, Hawaii, San Diego, Pepperdine, and La Sierra, the Beach lost to UC Riverside and Cal State Bakersfield ahead of a win over UC Davis. Since then it’s been losses to UC San Diego, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Cal Poly, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Barbara. The result so far has been a 7-16 overall run through the first 23 games of the season for the Beach. 

Matched up against UC Santa Barbara in their weekend outing, the Beach were down by 12 points in the locker room. Long Beach State was blitzed 47-28 the rest of the way and limped to an 85-54 blowout loss in the end. Devin Askew was the team’s leading scorer in the defeat, contributing a double-double on 23 points with 10 boards and three assists. Kam Martin added 13 points with three rebounds, and Varick Lewis chipped in six points with three rebounds off the bench.

I’ll take a stab at UC Davis. The Aggies had a rough second half in their latest loss to UC Irvine and eventually shot just 38.3 percent from the field with 17 turnovers for 15 Anteaters points. UC Davis didn’t play terribly otherwise, but the mistakes really added up late. The Aggies aren’t the highest-scoring team this year; they’ve been below 69 points in five straight games but have done well enough on defense to win three of those (and to be close in another). 

The Aggies took an ugly 84-73 home loss on January 11 the last time these teams met up. UC Davis did well on the boards in that one with a 33-25 advantage, but shot just 35.2 percent from the field and had 16 turnovers for 24 Beach points. UC Davis has plenty to clean up in this road rematch, but if they can get the shooting percentage up I think they’ve got a decent shot.
