Saint Mary’s vs Nevada Prediction

I’ll take a stab on Saint Mary’s but you could probably argue it either way. The Gaels have two wins in two games so far this year. The first was an overtime win versus a pesky Illinois State squad. In that one Saint Mary’s shot 50 percent from the field but just 24 percent (4-of-17) from outside and 69 percent (18-of-26) from the line. The Gaels did well rebounding (a 41-33 edge) but also gave up 48 percent shooting from both the field and 3-point range. Game two was another win versus North Dakota State, but this one came in blowout fashion. The Gaels shot a cool 67 percent from the field and 65 percent (20-of-31) from 3-point range in that one. They won’t likely repeat that feat here but a nice shooting performance will go a long way.

As for Nevada, they didn’t have too many issues at all versus an overmatched Robert Morris team in their opener on Monday. The Wolf Pack posted a blowout win thanks to 47 percent shooting from the field, a 47-32 rebounding edge and just eight turnovers. Nevada held Rob Morris to just 27 percent shooting from the field and 17 percent (3-of-18) from outside but did miss some free throws (61 percent on 14-of-23). This one will be a much tougher test for the Wolf Pack, but I could see them playing well and making things quite interesting.

Saint Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview

The Gaels have two games in the can so far this year, and they’ve been able to win both of them. The first matchup came Monday versus Illinois State. That one was a 90-85 overtime victory. Saint Mary’s lead scorer was Mantas Juzenas with 20 points and 11 boards. In game two versus North Dakota State on Wednesday, the Gaels took a blowout win 105-64.

Nevada Wolf Pack Betting Preview

Over on the Nevada side, they posted a pretty nice overall record last year at 24-13, but went a fairly tepid 12-8 in the Mountain West Conference. That result put the Wolf Pack in fifth place among the standings behind Utah State, San Diego State, New Mexico and Grand Canyon. Nevada won a couple of games in the conference tourney before a loss to Utah State, then beat Murray State and Liberty in the NIT before a loss to Auburn.

The Wolf Pack have just one game finished so far this year. That one came on Monday versus Robert Morris at Lawlor Events Center. Nevada was able to power out a blowout victory 86-49 in that one. Leading the charge was Elijah Price with 19 points and seven rebounds in 20 minutes of work. Both Vaughn Weems (four rebounds; three assists) and Styles Phipps (eight rebounds; five assists) put up 13 points apiece, while TJ Coulter led the bench players with 14 points and seven rebounds.
