Over on the Coppin State side, they limped to an 0-6 record over their first half-dozen games this year. The Eagles would beat Central Penn and Rider over the next three outings, then fell to Loyola MD, West Virginia, Liberty, Saint Joseph’s, Radford, Navy, Georgetown and UMBC before finally getting a win over Delaware State. That gives Coppin State a 3-15 record this year.

In the Delaware State matchup last Saturday the Eagles were clinging to a three-point lead 27-24 at halftime. Coppin State closed on a 27-26 deficit, holding on to take the win in the end 53-51. Taj Thweatt led the team with his 13 points and four rebounds. Nelson Laminzana was the only other team player in double-digits with 10 points and five rebounds in the winning effort.

I’ll stick with NC Central. Probably not touching this one, though; there’s not a lot to get excited about with both teams struggling. That said, NC Central is coming off a win over Norfolk State, despite shooting just 38.7 percent from the field and 4-of-21 (19 percent) from outside. The Eagles were pretty competitive on the boards and in the paint in that one, though. NC Central has won two of their last four games, scoring a nice 69 or more points in three of those outings.

As for Coppin State, they shot 40.8 percent from the field with 34 rebounds in their tight win over Delaware State last weekend. The Eagles posted a rough 6-of-15 (40 percent) from the line however, and had 17 turnovers alongside a 34-20 deficit in the paint. This upcoming matchup should be another competitive one at least, but I don’t think Coppin State’s offense will keep a cover pace.
