The NJIT Highlanders and the Albany Great Danes meet Thursday in college basketball action from SEFCU Arena. Here’s an NJIT vs Albany prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best NJIT vs Albany pick. We will examine the recent form and player performances for both teams, as well as the recent betting trends and streaks pertaining to this matchup. As we conclude, we will tie it all together with a summary that produces a sensible pick for a favorable betting outcome in this game.
NJIT Highlanders Betting Preview
The Highlanders looked good early on in the season, winning three of their first four outings. NJIT hit the skids after that however, losing eight of the next nine games. Since then it’s been a 5-3 stretch for the Highlanders. The victories in that time have come versus SUNY-Canton, Binghamton, New Hampshire, UMass Lowell and Bryant. Over the course of 21 games that gives NJIT a 9-12 record.
In the UMBC matchup last Thursday, the Highlanders were down 47-28 going into the second half. NJIT got better from there on a 46-40 run but it wasn’t anywhere near enough in an 87-74 loss on the road. Sebastian Robinson was the leading scorer in the losing effort with his 19 points and two assists. Melvyn Ebonkoli added 17 points with six rebounds and one assist.
Albany Great Danes Betting Preview
Over on the Albany side, they’ve had an even harder time finding victories this year. The Great Danes won just four of their first 16 games, taking out SUNY Delhi, Paul Smith’s, SUNY-Oneonta and Stony Brook. Albany would then beat Bryant, Binghamton and Vermont in succession before losses to Maine and New Hampshire, giving the team a 7-12 run over their first 19 games.
In the New Hampshire game last weekend, the Great Danes were sitting in the locker room with a 30-30 tie on the scoreboard. Albany was outpaced 50-42 the rest of the way, leading to an 80-72 loss on the road. Miles Rose was the team’s leading scorer with 20 points, four rebounds and two assists while Amir Lindsey added 16 points with six boards and two assists in the losing effort.

NJIT vs Albany Prediction
I’ll lean toward Albany here. That said, there’s not a lot to get excited about here (besides a potentially competitive game) with both teams struggling. The Great Danes couldn’t keep up with New Hampshire in their latest loss, thanks mostly to 13 turnovers and a tepid 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from outside. Albany hit 52.1 percent from the field otherwise though, and had a 24-19 rebounding edge. The Danes have lost consecutive games—both on the road—but they’ve been reasonably close in both.
As for NJIT, they shot 43.8 percent from the field in their loss to UMBC but also gave up 51.8 percent on the other side and went just 52.2 percent (12-of-23) from the line. The Highlanders are 4-2 in their last six games though, and playing some decent basketball. This should be an entertaining matchup if both teams keep it going.
