The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds and the Georgetown Hoyas meet Monday in college basketball action from the Capital One Arena. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game.
Loyola Maryland Greyhounds vs. Georgetown Hoyas Prediction
I’m on Georgetown in this one. This is just a bad Loyola Maryland team coming into this season to where I don’t feel like there’s any sort of value backing them against a team with a pulse. The Hoyas have some work to do as well but I think they snagged some solid pieces in the portal and I think Georgetown uses this as a tuneup game more than anything. Give me Georgetown in this one.
Loyola Maryland Greyhounds Team Preview
The Loyola Maryland Greyhounds come into the 2026-27 season looking to forget about 2025-26, where the team finished 12-18 overall including 8-10 in Patriot League play. Loyola Maryland’s stay in the conference tournament was short-lived as the 6-seed, getting bounced by Colgate in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The Greyhounds lost a ton of their talent from last year’s roster, leaving this year’s Greyhounds team with a lot more questions than answers at this point for Josh Loeffler’s group, led by Leo Ricketts, who had 19.7 PPG and 3.9 APG for JUCO Citrus College last season. Only time will tell if Loeffler can lead the Greyhounds to their first winning season since 2013.
Why the Loyola Greyhounds will win
- Georgetown has lost three of its last four home games.
- Georgetown has lost the first half in three of its last four night games at Capital One Arena.
Georgetown Hoyas Team Preview
The Georgetown Hoyas come into the 2026-27 season looking to take another step in the right direction after going 16-18 in the 2025-26 campaign, including a 6-14 mark in Big East conference play. The Hoyas have to find more talent after losing some key pieces from last year’s team, most notably Malik Mack. The answer is bringing in Vyctorius Miller (10.8 PPG, 2.7 RPG) from Oklahoma State apparently, as well as a lof of other transfers. Caleb Williams is Ed Cooley’s top returning piece from last year’s Georgetown squad, so it’ll be interesting to see if there’s actual change brewing in DC or if Cooley is just Patrick Ewing reincarnated.
Why the Georgetown Hoyas will win
- Georgetown has won each of its last 10 games against non-Conference opponents at Capital One Arena.
- Loyola (MD) has lost each of its last seven road games against non-Conference opponents.
- Georgetown has won the first half in 18 of its last 19 night games against non-Conference opponents at Capital One Arena.
Chris Ruffolo's Pick: Georgetown -23.5
